Ship thread

just a place to discuss your ships, how they're outfitted, their stats, and other ship stuff.

I'll go first and share the ships I use the most often.

INV. Dreamrose, Krait MK2 (outfitted for exploration and lightly engineered)

INV. Neptune's Wrath, Imperial courier (bubble bus and other activities in and around the bubble)

oops I posted in the wrong forum. It was intended to go in there. can someone move it there? this thread is more the personal ships you own rather than what they're for.

If you use the report button and ask a mod if they can move the thread, I think is probably quickest.

I don't think it matters which post you report but probably best if the OP!

Yeah I had to restart my computer while posting this, no wonder I lost all the progress I made

Oh dear oops!

As an afterthought, you can ask the mods to remove the irrelevant posts to the purpose of the thread, such as mine - ask them to tidy it up for you perhaps, I won't be offended!

Good luck getting it sorted mate.

all the posts can stay as a testament to the mistakes we all make.

The ship I'm using the most at the moment is an unarmed 607m/s Cobra MkIII (named Gunrunner, on the right):

I bought this ship after reaching Combat Elite around August 2015 and losing motivation to kill just for the fun of it, although I have plenty of other ships that are more than capable of killing, this one is minimally armoured and built for speed and manoeuvrability while carrying a small amount of cargo.

It got me to Trade Elite (in December 2015) 16t at a time running long range courier and delivery missions all over the bubble, and after reaching Triple Elite (in January 2016) became a scavenger, exploring Horizons planet surface POIs until engineering arrived in 2.1 and it was no longer the fastest thing around ;)

I've been exploring on carriers for the past year or so and when Odyssey arrived it became my go-to ship for salad hunting; it's small & easy to land on rough terrain, fast enough to travel from biome to biome without jumping to orbital cruise and importantly, allows me to share my time with friends via multi-crew.

I have a Cobra MK3 myself that I used to go to colonia, 21ly unengineered. Was awesome when I finally got there

This is Smuggly
A Krait ll designed specifically to handle stolen/black market goods.
Only 160 tons cargo but that's all she needs.
Her low output pp keeps her cool.
Good all round armour + resistances.
Packing 3 awesome pacifiers and 2 long range rails she has teeth too. Fully engineered.
Her silent running combined with sinks keeps her "quiet" for over a minute. Plenty of time for those awkward planetary high G surprises. 😅
Never lost a load yet and long may she continue.

I maintain this on a different site so it's easy for me to pull my builds for build discussion threads. Easy to copy and paste here. Some of these might be a little out of date with some tweaks done here and there, but all my ships are listed.

Parabellum Krait II -- Armed Merchant Cruiser / Rumble Bus

Poison Whiskey Krait II -- Combat Sweeper / Scout Sniper

Twin Reverb Krait II -- Core Mining Vessel

Arclight Vulture -- Knife Fighter

Sunburst Orca -- Interstellar Style Magnet

Velocity Courier -- Speed Demon / Bounty Hunter

Smokeless Imperial Eagle -- Wake Scanner / Canyon Racer

Shade's Shadow Krait Phantom -- Long Range Scientific Exploration Vessel (without the science bits)

Mad Hops Diamondback Explorer -- Deep Diver / Bubble Runner

Akikaze Fer-de-Lance -- Assassin

Outrider Chieftain -- Rail Boat

Interstellar Overdrive Dolphin -- Sightseer / Criminal Smuggling

Preacher's Daughter Cutter -- Freight Train

Stock T-6 No Name -- Free CG reward. No assigned role or engineering.... yet

I came back to ED mid February, after a couple of years away. I have a few accounts (?!) so I zeroed one and started over.

Currently riding around in a Cobra MKIII - it's a classic. Doing some 'long range' exploration - going about 10k LY out from the Bubble - it's pretty far for me

The Princess Astrophel on EDSY

It's probably a terrible build, and barely Engineered, but she's getting me where I want to go, and doing what I want to do, so it's all good :D

Here she is on a brief Stop-over out Jellyfish nebula way, looking a bit worse for wear:

Yeah, with that name and that registration, I'm a fully paid up member of the Tinfoil-Hat club :alien:👾

I've recently discovered the super strong cytoscrambler, and for some reason nobody talk about them. They're nuts in pve, you get literally huge pulse laser DPS but in small slot. For the price of small jitter and no hull damage (irrelevant since you are free to use the bigger slot for hull pewpew).
The jitter is also irrelevant, because the biggest shield around are also the biggest ship. Hitting a cutter at 600m is hardly a challenge.

So I've been playing new ships recently to play those little monsters. The Mamba, chieftain and challenger. And since I'm a really evil person, I'm playing them as shield tank. Yes, even the crusader and chieftain. I tried with hull tanking and I went poof, so.... Eventually I prefer the Challenger over Chieftain, more tanky IMO.
I could have used frag on them for even more boom boom, but that meant more engineering. Maybe some other day.

Inara->coriolis is kinda buggy ATM, so some engineering can be a bit bugged.

Mamba
Challenger

I guess I kinda came full cricle, with my first combat ship being a crusader

For combat I usually use my Krait MKII. Not too long ago I unlocked the packhound and they are very funny. Unfortunately, they have basically no ammo. Which mean I can't really use those in CZ and the like (but I have the vette for that). Still fun though.

Otherwise I play it with regular lasers or incendiary MC + regular MC.

And for Odyssey settlement attack, I made another krait, with a funky build. Allowed me to try the APA, since I never used plasma before. The idea is to use the 2 small slot for dumb rocket for ground assault (conveniently placed below the ship), and the APA are made to teach other ships that I still have teeth. The fighter helps in a fight.
It's not engineered and not really good in a fight, but it serves well nevertheless.

Finally, I have been trying to branch out for exploration. Now that I use a FC as a way to get outside the explored space, I can use explo ship with less range. Also, exobiology changed the deal, where small ships are more valuable than big one, since some plants are really hard to land nearby (fungoid for example).
With the free holidays courrier, I used that one the last time, but the front view is bad. The ship itself was awesome, and super fast above ground, which was really fun. Zooming from one biome to another at super high speed was cool. Plus dumb amount of shield, so if (when) you impact the ground it's OK.

So for next time, I will try a dolphin instead, I'll see if it's better.
Dolphin

My first Explo ship was an asp, and I still have it. Such a wonderful little ship. So mandatory "asp in front of things". My first planetary landing, for an engineer (it was awesome)

Customization are basics, I don't buy ARX, and kits are way too expensive for my taste. Some paintjob I like best vanilla (courrier, krait MKII), and my explo ship I never repair the paint. I wear that look with pride ! Ironically, my phantom is the only one with a custom paint (a red one).
