Proposal Discussion Ship to ship docking

Alright. Did a quick search, didn't find anything solid.

Read this in Newsletter 19:

There will be ship-ship docking though too, so it will still be possible to resupply. The ships suited for long range exploration will require a greater degree of self-sustainability, for example fuel scoops and repair and maintenance equipment, and we expect players to cooperate to meet the challenge!

Resupplying through ship to ship docking? Ships docking to each other?! Sounds awesome. Where, how, and show me footage dadgummit! :) Anyone know more?

Fly safe Commanders! :)

I dont know any more than whats been in newsletter. Its a nice idea though, up to now i thought that resupplying from other ships was going to be some process where you could select certain cargo to drop in space then scoop it up.

This is most likely in a DDF topic though somewhere.

I read (somewhere?) ship design had entry hatches designed specifically with this in mind for the eventuality of ship to ship docking.
Which I imagine will carry forward to docking with capital ships or shuttles on 'bigger than star port air lock' ships.

You beat me to it Globusdiablo.
The reply to bedroc's question raised some points about ship-to-ship docking and resupplying in frontier space.

a) Will there be occasional dedicated vessels that will resupply any ship cruising the nether regions?

b) These ships will have a small number of exterior docking bays? Perhaps a drive thru for that coffee and sticky bun? :D

c) A resupply ship would have to be big, somewhat larger than an Anaconda?

d) Would this craft be NPC only crewed? Hope not, the likes of this would be something a player-merchant could aspire to.

e) Defensive capabilities good / poor, needs an escort?

f) Resupply ships could be used for exploration purposes as well, with minimal refitting.

g) A ship like this, buying and selling in-system, could cause prices to collapse or sky rocket?

h) With some exceptions, buying and selling ship-to-ship will probably never be as competitive as ship-to-station. Those exceptions might be: i) An anarchy system filled to the gunnels with cut-throats, renegades and other scum. Any takers? ii) A war zone. iii) The site of an impending or post disaster.

i) If player-crewed and out in the back-of-beyond, could potential customers be dictated to with regards prices of goods and services or will it be a negotiation process?

j) What goods and what services could / would / should be available? Just dealings in canisters or some limited workshop repairs and outfitting? The selection and prices of a station maybe off-set by convenience and service; think super market vs corner shop ("G-G-G-Granville f-f-fetch yer cloth".) :D

k) Balancing armaments, docks, cargo space, armoury, workshops, engine type and also crewing, would give ship owners lots of configurations to fiddle with to suit their style of game-play.

Happy Easter everyone.

this is a cludge, but it might work with a few ships. gather and trade, no real station.

LOL

Soo, some engines will be on blow and some on suck, yes? :D

PS
Doh! Looking a the image more carefully I see it is 5 ships in dock not the whole contraption as a resupply ship. Pardon my ignorance.

PPS
Curious to know how the image was constructed.

Great news especially for pilots who will exploring space.

it may be a special Modulus. Each vessel will have to equip him. Then spaceships will be able to connect.

may be an opportunity to make a few quid selling goods that you could set your own price on in space as a re supply ship or something ? what do you think? I think there should be something in there that says you need to have x amount of food and drink when in deep space away from the core systems
