Horizons Ship Transfer Vote

I was happy to have a vote. It will be interesting to see how this shapes up. Just wanted to throw in that I think there should be a little lore involved, and a transaction, like you're having to hire a contract pilot to fly it for some reasonable amount, which would also cover his or her ticket back to wherever. Maybe the higher the amount paid, the quicker the pilot gets it to you. I don't see a problem at all with it taking from two hours to a day. EDH is about realism, and maintaining it at every opportunity helps with the immersion. And I'm sure real gamers (I'm a 58 year old dad) who understand the guts of game code have smarter suggestions than this.

In before the lock!

I don't those are bad ideas. To me the only real reason to oppose instant transfers of ships is to prevent massively engineered combat ships from freely moving around. I think the main thing most players wanted to see was the ability to move ships when selecting a new home port, not the ability to have instant gameplay advantage. But then I may be wrong...

I agree, with the latter part, about it being about home port. That's why I'd do it. But I hadn't thought of what you mention, such as a guy or gal flying out to a CG in an Asp, and then transferring the unbeatable killer mod ship in a few seconds, laying waste and then leaving in the Asp again. That would be like busting a move on the realism. At the very least that transfer time should be two hours, in my mind.

Same process would work with Engineer Mods. Fly the fastest ship to Engineer, then call all of your ships to that location, Mod up all you can, then fly Asp (most likely) to next Engineer. Rinse & Repeat.
Would be the fastest method to get my 12ly Corvette 400LY away!

I would genuinely like to see a variety of optional characters to bring your ship to you - not just speed, but reliability. Now I know there will be outcry if they were unreliable enough that they "lost" your ship, but perhaps a combination of speed and amount of damage sustained could be interesting.
Your expensive courier would deliver your ship in pristine condition in timely fashion
The cheap seats version might deliver it with 50% hull and 2 hours after you wanted it.......

Perhaps the expensive couriers would have a powerful escort to evade piracy....and the cheap ones don't

Maybe we could have shady couriers that know shortcuts but might also get clobbered by SysSec.....

I'd also like to see a non-courier based version: sort of like trains. There are known routes from x-y every Thursday @ 15.00 UTC for example. Players could position their ships on routes and command a pick up to bring them to the Closest Point of Approach to where they want them......I see these like the great Megayacht (Gin palaces) transports we have plying the route between the Caribbean and Med here on Earth!

I would rather they implement some sort of way to make money off this, like either a towing service (something they have planned in the future is to add smaller ships to the larger ones). Or selling tickets to take someone to another galaxy, or something like that. I love the way they have been keeping the community involved (e.g. if you're out of gas people can come fill up your tank for a fee). And think this would be another aspect where we could have a sector of people dedicated to transporting ships.
