Newcomer / Intro Ship upgrade

HI guys n girls

Fairly new to ED so I'm probably going to ask a dumb question ( me never ) I have amased a small fortune In my sidewinder that I have sold :(
I have 500 k in the off world account (lol) what ship do I go for ?? Ive not got a particular fav really but consider myself an all rounder in ED but still learning ( I have a desire for an Eagle to be honest ) any thoughts advice welcome CMDR JxJester

Go with whatever grabs you , but make sure you set aside insurance funds. There are way too many Cmdrs that buy their pretty new ship and then loose it due to lack of creds.

I would say that the 1st ship goal, has to be the Cobra. It is the classic and a good all rounder.

You just need another 5 to 7 million to kit it out to top spec?

I was in your shoes about 3 weeks ago. I went with a Viper and haven't regretted it once. The Cobra is recommended a lot (for good reason) as an general purpose ship but the Viper is a good bit cheaper (and cheaper to kit out) when you're new. I also have a Type 6 for anytime I care about cargo space and jump range.

Can't really recommend the Eagle. Never owned one either, but it just seemed a throw away ship that I'd only use until I got a <insert ship>. I want my ship purchase decisions to be more purposeful and long term. As long as I play ED I'll likely keep the Viper for the sheer fun and the T6 because it can dock at Outposts and is a stellar explorer (when kitted for it) for way less than an Asp.

Since you're an all-rounder, consider an Adder then a Cobra. I was able to start with a Cobra (KS pledge package) but would otherwise have gone with the Adder as my first upgrade ship.

have bought flown and enjoyed every ship upto and including now the clipper..and will say the cobra will do whatever you need it to do for some time..and is a gateway ship for the bigger toys, viper is a good bounty hunter or whatnot..but the cobra can do everything..and to be honest I prefer the medium hardpoints in the cobras position to the under slung ones on the viper..but thats me I guess.

That being said the adder is a respectable little ship as well..but the eagle kitted out is a fun run...hell all the ships are fun..try them all :)

Another vote for the Cobra.

I upgraded my Sidewinder to a Cobra as my first upgrade and still fly it now. I've fully kitted it out as my main exploration vessel and I spend most of my time exploring.

I've dabbled with a few ships (Asp, T6, Vulture, Viper) but always feel more at home in my Cobra. I don't think that will change any time soon.

Go where the Solar Winds take you. But, I went sidey, adder, cobra, vulture to now clipper. My playing style favors a multi ship versus a dedicated ship. However, I made most of my Credits in the vulture in RES. it wasn't until the clipper that my character ventured out. Now I like it all. Each profession has its pros and cons. Just like every ship.

Half mil of credits may be a bit short for Cobra. I'd go with Adder as a good all rounder and then get a Cobra when the account is closer to a million.

Go with the Eagle, You won't to miss that out in your Elite career, its a great little ship and super fun to fly for a bit :D

All cheers , you know I'll kit out an eagle and play n save then who knows , just keep a look out behind you "where eagles dare"

Great forum great people cheers
