Greetings, So I was talking with a bunch of other CMDR's on Discord, and we had an idea.
The idea being that an Engineer, might say he or she Likes the way the Thargoids deploy drones, and wants us to have something similar.
So they offer a modification to the Turrets we use to intercept missiles and limpets, one that make it able to be deployed like a drone. It would function just like any other point defense turret until deployed, then it comes alive!
It would need to have a limited range (like the fighters do), but would be wholely autonomous or with multi-crew ships you could assign a pilot to 1 drone. But the idea is that you'd want to fill up [all] your utility slots with a whole slew of the 'lil buggers, haha!
Obviously there would be a balance need for them, some ships having a lot more utility slots than others, but as they are drones, those point defense turrets on other ships would be able to shoot them down just like regular limpets.
You might consider having some "extra" parts on board, in case they do get expended, like fighters do.
Maybe even make it a separate control module instead of the engineer thing.
I do think it would be quite nifty to have a bunch of autonomous drones to be distracting or pesky like.
