Ship variants / quirks

Hello,

sorry if this suggestion was done before, but i tried searching and did find nothing. also this is my first post on the forum and worse of all, i am no native english speaker, so dont hurt me if i do something wrong xD

well i thought that atm the ships are not a very large number and they all seem quite similar and.. excuse me.. but some are boring too.

i thought why not make local or military subvariants or even fieldvariants of certain regions.

so the idea basically is that we have the "standard cobra mk III" that has the standard values and is available near sol and in the more high tech / high end regions

but then in other regions there might be a (just random names and examples on a cobra)

a Anarchy-Cobra that lacks a internal type 4 compartment but upgrades a small weapon slot to another medium
a Federal-Cobra that is uparmored and therefor has a bit more armor resistances but with more weight as standard.
a Lakon-Modified-Cobra that has less weapons but more internal compartments for cargo useage
a Racer-Cobra that has way more top speed and less mass but only small weapons
a Interceptor-Cobra that has only a Class 3 FSD and a smaller tank but a internal class 5 compartment for a bigger shield.
a Runaway-Cobra which does have more reverse thrust but lacks forward speed.

maybe even smaller quirks to equipment already used.. so one kind of
a cobra mk3c could give every cargo rack 10% more space so 36 instead of 32 tons or
a cobra mk3l could be especially good for laser weapons and make them cool down 5% faster
a cobra mk3s that has 5% more shield capacity

stuff like that.. it might only be 3% or 5% difference from the original, but it would add some diversity and fun and would make people go out and search the things they want.

i'd really like that. because at the moment i think its too transparent and the same overall.. not just that every cobra costs exactly the same everywhere (beside founders..), they are also always the same and even the modules on the ships always have the same costs.. that is something i find very boring

also i think the outfitting costs should vary a bit.. why does every class 4 powerplant cost the same, why every class 4 thruster and every class 4 FSD? and whats worse is they even cost the same to each other.. so a 4A powerplant costs the same as a 4A thruster and a 4A FSD.. why? wouldnt a FSD maybe be more expensive than a thruster?

i somehow think that frontier lacks a lot of creativity on that part..

what do you guys think about that?

Generally agree with the OP. I'd add that it would be nice to be able to pick up second hand ships that perhaps need some work with the possibility that you could pick up say a battered Python for buttons (relative to a shiny new one) but it comes with a lot of damage/missing key components, etc (that you'd need to fix of course) but you could fix at your leisure as cash allowed.

yeah.. the opposite could be a thing too.. like you have a area that is not much visited and a vendor sells ships with a better than standard FSD or something, to lure people in ^^

Why don't you go all out and call them the "tech 2", "tech 3" and "Faction" variants?

actually i wasnt thinking of eve.. but then one would usually be better than another.. i want it just more diverse.. maybe even with more cons than pros but if you really want that pro it would be better than a standard variant..

Why not have some of the older models of ships run around (Mark II Cobra, Viper II, etc in anarchy / poor systems )? Im sure not all npcs have the cash to buy the newest ship, instead of flying in an inherited junker. It works, why fix it.

maybe instead of 1 shipyard have 2 at some stations, but just like other stuff depending on which station you go to it may have a shipyard that sell new or second hand. Also some people do there ships up and what happens to them. maybe in a second hand shipyard there might be fixer upers or fully decked out for your needs. Plus just like the stations are different colours why not have ships from different systems have different paint jobs. so if I like a ship with a certain paint job I will have to go to that system to buy my ship.

The other thing is I would like to see the ship instead of the holographic representation of what it is.

It would be better even if in the outer systems players would encounter ships modelled after those from elite, frontier and frontier fe..
