Another random idea!
We currently have 30~ or so ships. Plenty really, I still haven't flown them all.
But with that said, what would you say to having different variants to existing ships?
These would be generally better, but also more expensive, and locked behind some various Pilots Federation ranks, and given a special paint job to go with it.
The model and cockpit would remain the same, so it's quite light on dev time.
For example, the humble Eagle.
It doesn't get much use these days. It's just a ship for new combat pilots to use to move up to a Viper or Vulture.
Most people only keep one for funzies after.
But you could release the Black Eagle.
Comes standard with a flashy (black) paintjob, and is more expensive (4,000,000 instead of 40k), but also more viable as a combat ship for late stage players, and would be locked behind combat rank Master.
Same could be done for the Cobra MkIII. Release King Cobra. Same again, more expensive, better at being multi purpose, locked behind another rank, not sure which.
Moving right up, you'd get the FDL variant.
Costing a whopping 150,000,000, again all tweaked to be better. Flashy paintjob. Locked behind Deadly Combat Rank.
Can't think of a name for it. Lancehead or Spearhead..?
Basically, using the original models, you can create a variant that actually fits in well above its class.
So instead of getting a Vulture, you may think, "I actually love the Eagle, But not the Vulture. So I'm going to unlock the Black Eagle!".
This would give players far more choice, and providing they're balanced to fit within their new "class", it won't be a problem.
Other variants of the same model can exist too, like a Racing Eagle.
Striped of all weapons, and reduced internals, the Racing Eagle is the pinnacle of high speed racing. Without modifications, it's capable of sustaining speeds of over 1000m/s.
Purely just for racing.
Or something along those lines.
Thoughts?
