Ship wreckage inside of station?

So just logged into the game, launched the ship at Jameson's Memorial and lo and behold a chunk of ship wreckage is floating around the station in front of me. I had seen this at Titans "whatever" during the rescue mission but never in a station in the bubble before. Is this normal and I have just missed it or is it something new.

i am in open so maybe I just missed some pvp interplay but no one else seems to be in my instance

NPC's get popped by stations sometimes for different reasons.
I bet that's what you have seen.

Most of the time I see that, it's because an NPC gets stuck in the mailslot and gets blasted by the station.

Scrap floating around inside a station is not a good sign.
The next thing that usually happens is you get a load of space caravans blocking the landing pads.
