Newcomer / Intro Shipping lanes - how to find them..?

I never used to bother much when the bottom left panel would switch to 'Shipping lane' to announce my current position.

With Engineers though, some 'Combat Aftermath' USSs are to be found in 'Shipping lanes', so it becomes vital to know where they are.

These are my observations - please let me know if they are correct:

1. Shipping lanes run from the entry Star to each station, AND between each station (including planetary stations.

2. To get in a shipping lane you must move outside the influence of a Star or planet

3. To get in a shipping lane, you must be in Supercruise (if you drop out of supercruise from within a shipping lane, you are no longer in the shipping lane, you are in 'deep space')

Yes, you have pretty much sorted it out.

Also it seems that most of the pirates are operating along the Shipping lines, so if you want to not be interdicted as much, it's a good idea to move on a curved trajectory outside the system's ecliptic.

Also what I would REALLY like to see are some benefits of following the shipping line. Like faster accelerations and decelerations that would save time, or something similar.
