Ships at central hangar strategy?

Still new player just over week in game, so not an issue yet but like to plan ahead.

Have a tyoe 7 parked at one end of my favorite cargo route, and currently using my Asp for faction grinding. When I want to swap to my freighter for some cargo sessions, I just directly fly to where it is parked, swap ships, and ferry cargo. When done, just swap back to my Asp.

However, once I get the cash to acquire more ships, and I know there's at least half a dozen models I will want to keep on hand permanently rather than sell off after I progress to next level ship.

So how are people deciding where to park their ships? A central "homeworld" or just anywhere willy nilly?

If central homeworld - I was thinking either at a really good high tech world so I could not only swap ships but modify if I needed to right there. And second layer of consideration would be a high tech world situated kind of in center of populated map space as I am not pledged and don't plan to - so center would let me get to various faction grinding or cargo routes faster.

Trying to avoid waking up one day and realizing oh no, I have 8 ships parked here and there, or parked at the wrong home world and then have to do the sidewinder ferry over and over to move all my ships.

To keep immersion, I don't need or want an instant move my ship HERE button, but just as in the real world you can pay freight hauler to move your car when relocating states, like west coast to east coast move - I sure would like an option at any star port with a shipyard to pay to have my ship(s) relocated there - with say a timer just like for missions - X amount of time to move a ship based on distance.

Welcome to that which is elite dangerous.

Just park them where you want to park them.

In the future i bet we will have the option to be transport ships around or even be a passenger on ships also. Be like buying a plane ticket to such and such location.

Or maybe we will get npc's and tell them hey go get my ship and bring it here or to this location...

When will all this cool stuff happen. LOL this is elite dangerous. First the devs will work on something nobody wants then maybe possibly the port to ps4 and then the Wii

Then when they get around to it you might get something like this

1st: Most will take a ship and their fortunes with them where they go, etc etc.

2nd: You need to control, where you are and what you do, if you wish to be in, reaching distance of all your ship investments. I have 2 vipers, out there somewhere, half a day away, sort of thing. Now I have a base, but i had to fetch my Cobra, with a sidewinder, just under 1,000Ly away. Until you find a place, you may call home, stick close to your ships.

I have all my ships in one place - and yes it's incredibly frustrating, the game could be SO much better if there was a way of transporting them from system to system other than flying them individually.

1 week and you have a Type 7?

Watch out for deep vein thrombosis.

Due to my job I've only been playing ~4 hours per weekdays, hour in morning before I head out and 3 hr session in evening instead of TV. Weekends admittedly I settle in for really long sessions.

I can't claim any credit - all I did was read here and follow guides and take advantage of the big buff to smuggling. Before my time obviously, but apparently it used to not be really good. But as a new player on day 1 I moved from my sidewinder to critical first step to accelerating money - the Hauler - nearly instantly just by doing a few smuggling missions.

Even with no rep or rank in trade/combat/explore, I was getting 30-50k smuggling missions right off the bat, with the occasional windfall 100k+ mission. So I spent maybe an hour or less in my sidewinder and moved up to Hauler immediately. Which let me stack even more smuggling missions I could accept.

Spent a few days smuggling in that and was in a Cobra to do them even faster but still decent cargo to accept many smuggling missions. Got into type 6 about day 5, and then type 7 exactly 1 week or 7 days after I started. Had to sell everything to get the type 7 and I ran it unshielded with nothing but D parts for awhile but that sucker let me re-earn enough cash to buy a mid-range equipped Asp to be my new smuggling mission ship

Once I get enough cash I plan on buying back my Diamondback Explorer and few other ships - hence my proactive question here how players are storing their ships.

I don't know how it was in the beta days or even few weeks before I started, but apparently the cash progression curve is a lot easier on new players due to the buffs not only in smuggling, but just knowing where to buy the heavily discounted stuff - I bought all my ships/parts only at the best discount locations and that saved lot of time

You asked the question...

... and gave the answer. What's left to say anymore?

Learn to read would be what's left to say.

My answer was part theoretical as obviously stated - and part wishlist for something not even implemented in game yet - ship relocation service - hence my question to more veteran players what their ship storage scheme looks like.

I don't assume just because I think out loud a theoretical plan based on limited knowledge that I know everything or what is best. I also don't act like a jack ass to a new player clearly thinking out loud and asking for either confirmation or any other contribution in the subject.

I picked a home base in the first week or 2 of playing. I keep most of my ships there, although sometimes I leave my T9 at one end of a good trade route and will sometimes leave a ship somewhere else if I know I will be back and need it there again like pp headquarters. Usually I do one profession until I am ready to do something else after about a week I change it up so I only need to go to my base then. And at that point sometimes I just want to jump into my favorite ship (Cobra) and go for a Sunday drive.

Indeed... an Asp and a T-7 in one week?
What magic is that?

FD must seriously consider a big rebalance of income.
This is so wrong on so many levels.

Personally, I have all (except one) ships in one shipyard on Hi-tech world, where I am Allied with the minor facition.

It does seem a bit of a shame to whizz through the small ships so quickly (says CMDR MrChips from the comfort of his Python)

My ships are relatively close to each other, but not all in the one station.
Several are stripped and useless, hull only due to buying other ships.

I wish there was a way to have other players ferry ships about or pay to have them transported etc. Hopefully, one day.
Maybe @SJA can script up an NPC ship-ferry pilot, 10-20k/jump would be a decent credit sink. And you could run escort for your own ship. /dreaming.

You've done well to get into an Asp and a Type 7 so quickly...good on you for seeing the quick move to a Hauler as a big benefit. In trading the cargo capacity is king.
As others have said it must be easier to make credits in the early game.

I like to leave ships all over like little surprise nuggets...oh there is a Viper here, lets have some fun!

On some level it'd be neat if you could get passenger flights, though I wonder if it'd be just "teleporting" the player to the new location or actually putting the player in a NPC controlled Dolphin/Orca/Beluga and giving the player a passenger window view of the flight.

Shame there's no "Long Range Cruisers" like there was in Elite 2/Final Frontier, gigantic ships that could theoretically haul player scale ships in their bays. I wouldn't trust an NPC to move a 150m+ ship, especially considering all those NPC ships that get shot down or crash into stations.

Right now I used haulers as temporary ships to move all my ships into one centrally located station.

i have a central base where i keep my heavy duty ships and several small bases around it (aprox 50-100 ly apart) that i set up whit short range combat ships.
building mini bases all over populated space i think is a game goal that will keep me occupied for awhile and its allot more fun than the anaconda grind.

Oh, hey cool idea.

I'm still building up cash so can only maintain my current best-trade ship and current-best all purpose/mission ship. But that sounds like what I'll do once enough cash to buy some extra combat ships to park in mini bases

You missed the OP's comments - he spent 4 hours/day Mon-Fri and lots more time on the weekends. That's probably 30-35 hours in 7 days. If I had that much time, I'd have earned a bare-bones Type 7 in 7 days also. Nothing magic about putting in lots of effort.

To answer the OP's question, having a home system is actually somewhat convenient and comforting because your familiarity with the system and it's neighboring systems is akin to have a real home where you know your neighbors. I anticipated the same problem you identified and carefully chose a home system after some exploring. I looked for stable trade partners (high volume, high profit), good RES in a neighboring system, and on the border between Empire and Federation to give me easy access to rank up and take advantage of illicit trade opportunities.

Thanks, great advice. I didn't think about the border advantage, so I'll look for one like that too between Fed and Empire.

And yes - just about right on hours - by day 7 I was prob ~36 hours played.
And today on day 10, my steam log shows 74 hours played - well, in game that is - with at few hours of that sitting in stations while I researched forums
*big jump due to 4-day holiday for my company over 4th of july holiday, really racked up some hours over that sweet holiday period

Couple people have commented now on what I thought was normal progression. All I really did was just stick to a plan - trade. Be a pure cargo hauler moving maximum # of goods with best CR/ton/hour I could find from A to B. With the aforementioned smuggling missions buffed to where it can give a new player good start in earning money to buy that first real trade ship - type 6 (hauler is nice but bit small, was making more money smuggling missions with it than trading)
