Horizons Ships - Federal V Imperial.

This has nothing to do with DPS or power, it's purely about looks.

Imperial ships look classy and actually reflect your rank in the Empire.

On the other hand:

Federal ships look nothing more than a box with engines and it's actually hard to tell at a glance the difference between a FDS, FAS or FGS. It appears you have to gain a specific rank to buy one but your rank means absolutely nothing.

Honestly? Can't the Federation design anything that looks half decent, something you'd be actually proud to be seen in? Or is it a case of them not having to supply a coffin because you bought your own box?

Love the Fed ships style, and they do actually look quite different once you pay attention. Prefer their industrial and military style look to the clean lines of the imperial stuff.

Corvette is hard to earn, condor is crap to fly and a farragut will no one ever own

Imperial ships are for those who want style.

Federal ships are for those who want power and practicality.

All Feds ship (beside the Dropship. That thing is just awful) are powerful hard hitting ships. The imperial ships are the weaker,but faster hitting ships. The Cutter is the pinnacle of imperial design and power as it delivers both speed and power while lacking in manuvarablity.

Aesthetically, I much prefer the practical, utilitarian look of the Fed ships. I'm not at all keen on the Boeing 737 / Airbus vibe the Slavers seem to like.

I love the look of the federal ships!
They emanate raw power and pure utilitarianism. When you see one, there is no guessing game about their purpose: to kill you fast and efficiently.

I have to say, even as an Empire-first guy, I do love my Federal Gun-Coffin.
Lots of guns, fighters, fun.

She has that "inner beauty" thing going for her.

In principle I like both design styles.
The Dropship always was one of my favorite Federal designs. I also like the Diamondback, although I feel the cockpit canopy should have been more cylindrical like the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon.
The Corvette is a nice looking ship with lots of detail, but I do feel the bridge is too far to the back of the ship and the thrusters look very simplistic and uninteresting.
Compare that for example to the beautiful thrusters of the FDL. There is so much interesting rich design going on with the FDL's thrusters. I would have liked the Corvette's thrusters to be more interesting and detailed too. The FDL is a real masterpiece in that respect..

In real life I also love machines like the A10 and H64. What makes them beautiful is not their flowing elegant lines, but the purposeful technological power they project.

I was never a big fan of the Clipper. I think her cockpit/bridge is too large in comparison to the hull and this makes the ship look much smaller than it is. I would have liked the Clipper to have a more hawkish appearance. Instead it got a Donald Duck nose.
I like the Cutter much better. She looks awesome, although I would have placed the cockpit more in the middle on top of the hull where it has that bulge with the windows in the front. If it was up to me I would have made a few other changes too, but in general the Cutter is a looker.

I personally think that the Keelback thrusters look the best. I will say thought that the Dropship is actually a good ship for Planetary assault with the 4 medium hardpoints for missiles. But it is hard to argue that the Cutter looks amazing...

Are those Phillips head screws holding that FDL together or lower, are those Torx screws?

Can't they standardize fasteners even in 3303?

If the Asp explorer had the same equipment loadout as the Python that would be my favorite ship.
The Python looks like somebody pointing a finger. And it is easier to put it's nose out of joint. (while landing) (Okay, it is definitely a heavy handed finger)

Maybe this is the place to ask ............ how do you take a selfie from so far from the ship? I can hardly fit the ship into the frame before the camera stops moving away.

The Furry Lance isn't a Fed or Imp Ship, it's a civilian ship.

Why is it that there are only 3 Imp ships (Courier, Clipper and Cutter) but there are 4 Fed ships (Dropship, Assault Ship, Gun Ship and Corvette)? You can't really count the Imp Eagle since it's based off a civilian ship. I think it's a bit of laziness by FD really, instead of giving us a completely new Imp Ship in place of the Imp Eagle, they remodelled an existing one.

The only place you EVER see a cap ship is in a CZ. Do they build them in a CZ or something? Don't they ever fly to a CZ? We should be seeing them in space at some point, even if there are only NPC's flying them. But then, I'm all for having them made available to players who can afford them as well.

I'd like to see a few more different looking ships in the game, something to give us a lot more variety, there are too many same old ships you see everywhere else. New models are always welcome, I am a bit fed up with seeing the same few ships everywhere I go. Also, the model for the Panther is in the game data files, why have we not got it in game yet?
