hi there,

i find that in elite 2 and 3, it was so cool to shuffles throught the shipyard to see every ships they were selling.

every ships has their own paintjob, and identification number, and it was cool to be honest, it felt like every ship for sale there had its own history , whether it was a new model or old ship...

In elite dangerous, when you buy a ship from a shipyard, it seems the model of the ship doesnt vanish - it is still on sale , which make it unrealistic as it seems every shipyards has an indefinite amount of ships to sell.

I was wondering, if that could be possible to have predefinited number of ships per shipyards to sell. Quite like elite 2 and 3 i'd say, where every ship has its own ID number, and its own color/decals. It would be cool as you could get really different ships, some could be a weared down green color, some other would be a neat metallic hull....

if you know what i mean.

and the ship ID number could be tagged on the ship hull...

I know what you mean. Lots of us want to be able to name the ship as well (which I'm sure will happen eventually)

What I'd love to see is having the serial numbers be persistent, and generated based on set information you could interpret. For example:

3012-SOL-34562

Where 301 means 3301, 2 means the second month, so this ship was built in February 3301
SOL is system of manufacture (BRN might be Barnard's Star, or EVR might be Everite, etc..)
34562 would simply be the number of ships made in Sol in February 3301, meaning yours was 34562 off the assembly line.

It could work different, of course, that's just one idea of how it might.

What could be cool then is that if your ship is destroyed, that number is lost forever and your replacement is given a new one. If you trade it in, however, the number is returned to the pool. While I doubt it would happen, what might be cool is that if you had any decals or paint jobs on it when you traded it in, that one (and only that one) would carry over with it. You can keep the paint job as is, but if you swap it out for one in your livery you lose it.

Of course the problem there is you'd need to change up the ship preview system.

Just a thought :)

I agree this area of the game needs buffing. Once we can walk about it should be different- you will choose the ship and walk right into it (assuming you have the EVA paid expansion).

Ship Names as described in the DDF would be a welcome addition. Ships with history. Ships with registration numbers. Used ships that are cheaper because they need maintenance and more expensive because they already have some upgrades. Etc.

Additionally I feel the same about modules. We should be able to scroll through pictures of modules and have more manufacturer specific information. Modules should come from a variety of manufacturers and be of varying quality, not just the numeric ratings we have now. We should be able to visit a specific manufacturer's dealership or shipyard as well as the mega dealer selling every brand and make. And they should be locatable and reliable to regularly get stock, not a totally random dice-roll as sometimes seems now.

Nice idea , eventually that could be a variation, althought it would relies more on a system of establishing ship buildings number and etc..

exactly, it would need us to be able to see what the ship looks like , and more details like if its an original, damaged, modified ship, etc....

but i guess we can interpret that in the previous games, modded ships were probably reset to factory modules, so every time they kept the extra modules for them and sold the ships at factory settings... that could be less complicated to do for ED for example.

i suppose that since ED is online, with potentially 100s of players at the same station looking for a new ship, it would be out of supply very fast, unlike in older Elites :)
but it would be cool if in future there was an actual and limited supply of ships, combined with manufacturing, and buying/selling used ships.. could perhaps be a career in the game

but one thing i really miss from older elites is those individual ID-tags.. kinda silly if u ask me that all my eagles have same ID-code :p (do they even have one??)

I really like the idea of some stations selling different flavors of ships.

Example, this one station sells vipers, this other station sells red vipers. This third station sells vipers, but they start with four pulse lasers instead of two.

Kind of like finding shiny pokemon!
