Ships ramming causing unfair murder charges!

I was in a res, literally hovering ( not moving ). Security vessel screamed in, I didn't see him. Rammed me, his ship was destroyed, I get 6,000 credit bounty and 6 days in the "cooler". This shouldn't happen.

And i re post with the same sentence as before, it is a confirmed bug by frontier, it was confirmed back in horizons beta, it is the ai scanning, they sometimes boost to "catch up" with you and forget to slam the brakes on ending up crashing into your ship. frontier dont know how to fix this or are taking their time, its a totally random thing doesnt always happen and yes the ai will use ramming as a technique in combat.

It's been happening for a while and it's ridiculous. Elite apologists will tell you that it's your own fault, because "situational awareness" or (even more amusingly) that it's "a legitimate tactic". But it's clearly nonsense, and one of the many things that FD should be fixing instead of adding new BGS stuff that most players don't seem remotely interested in.

Never had a problem with it myself, but if it is indeed a problem for some I hope it's sorted before any harsher penalties for murder are bought in.

Good grief charlie brown...harsher penalties for murder?? when

1) I have yet to see a combat mission since horror i-zones less than elite ranking that isnt alllll about assassinating people for basically living and succeeding... ie ...kill this one s/hes too influential
2) when helping living entities in life pods from post wanted ship destruction flotsam is a crime...

I get that new missions with timer lag etc came in but did it have to come in at the expense of all those missions that we did enjoy?

MOM has programmed some of the feds to be heavy whiskey drinkers. They scan and then pass out, and in full boost ram you, and thereby fines and deaths are handed out. It often creates much wanted revenue for the feds :D

There's nothing that needs looking at. It's exactly the same as NPCs shooting back at you. You just have to learn to deal with it.

If you had it at a station, you were most likely speeding. I bet you previously got a 200cr fine when one bumped you, but you didn't change your behaviour. The fine is the yellow card. Do it again and you get the red card.

Bounty hunting at the nav beacons is the worse for being rammed, especially when you're on a pirate killing mission or two. It's just one of the hazards, like traders get interdictions. Learn to deal with it.

You also get it bounty hunting in RESs. NPCs come charging in to scan you, but they don't stop in time, copying what commanders often do to them. You just have to learn to dodge them, which isn't difficult.

I have to disagree with you here. The worst KWS has a range of 2 klm and the worst sensor is 4.6 klm. So just why do these brain dead NPCs have boost into you to scan you? Are they all blind and doing an NPC Braille scan? It is poor programming or maybe latency but the fact that it happens ALL the time makes me think the former.

Until the bug gets fixed the only way I've found to deal with this is to hit to boost button the moment you get the scan warning. Even in the bigger ships it's usually enough to make sure you get out the way of the incoming fed just in time. Just so long as they're not approaching from in front of you of course...

But there is a bug also at the mo.

I was running about in a stripped down hauler the other day, undocked very slow from a Coriolis. Suddenly i see scan detected and crash, im rammed by a fed viper at what must have been max boost... So i start my hauler journey on 3% hull ....

Working as intended

LOL
omg just after reading all this I go to a compromised Nav Beacon. Drop out of SC. just getting my bearings on where the ships are, "scan detected" then CRASH right into my roof. Shields down, some hull damage.
Brilliant. Working as intended my ....!

Well, look at the bright side. The fed was probably drinking Jack Daniels. He is excused :D

I've noticed that now I am in an Anaconda I get rammed much more often when near stations. I find it surprising when I am not rammed. I always dock with the docking computer on otherwise I would probably be flooded with tickets. Plus I don't think the Conda is agile enough to get out of the way at least not the way she is equipped now.

Must admit I've noticed the NPC's ramming a lot more in comp nav beacons. I often sit idle waiting for my shields to regen only to be constantly rammed by potato NPC's trying to scan me. It's a little bit silly.

Yeah, absolutely. I mean after all, if you're involved in a collision on the road, the first thing the police tell you is to learn how to avoid careless drivers, then you get billed for the damage to the other vehicle, right?

It's really not difficult for FD to determine who's "fault" the collision was based on each ships vector, velocity and examining which part of who's ship hit what. If the front portion of an AI (or commander) ship hits anything other than the front portion of my ship, it's their fault. It's not my responsibility to "get out of the way".

They will absolutely blame you and fine you if you are speeding.
