Horizons Ships taking off behind you

NPC ships will climb off the pad to near the center of the station so you should have room to lift off enough to see your scanner before you hit them. Just lift off slowly.
Players are unpredictable though. No way to avoid them.

I'm ok with the ones i can see. It's the ships that are behind me when i lift. When your near the exit and lift sometimes ships are coming from behind you and you can't see them.

Wot Cknarf said ^^^^^^^

You will soon get a feel for what is on the move and the audio will let you know what ship it is approaching - each ship's engine sound is quite distinct.

However, some ships will slow to a stop if you slow to try and let them pass, then gun their thrusters if you get tired of waiting and try to slip through the mail slot ahead of them. In large ships like the 'Conda this can jam you in the mail slot with fatal results, because there is not room for them to pass above or below. They do not try to go around.

How do you know if there are ships taking off behind you in a station? I have near collisions with ships but don't know how to avoid them.

As already said, move slowly. If you don't hear other sounds, you are good to go.

The realism of a station would benefit from ''intelligent" traffic control that passes you accurate messages about what is happening. "Clear to Depart" should mean that, not "give it a try but there's a couple of Belugas who will expect priority." But it's probably hard to code for this.

Should not be hard to code this at all..

If ship larger than ship launching is approaching exit, then message to smaller ship is "Beware of outgoing traffic, Commander."
If launching ship is the largest exiting the hanger, the message should be: "You are clear to depart Commander."
The hard part would be coding the NPC's to follow the "rules of space" and yield to the larger vessels.

Stay under 100 and it doesn’t matter. The air traffic controller may scold you but that’s ok you’ve done nothing wrong. Unfortunately the AI controlled ships do not follow the same rules as we do, hence they ignore rules on letting bigger ships have right of way etc

How about a departing computer (or make the docking computer module for both docking and taking off). It could keep track of the traffic situation. That being said i still am having issues with the auto docking. Sometimes it will queue until there are no other ships in the area even if you were there first. I have had it try to queue when it is already in the mail slot a few times.

If your any large ship (cutter, Vette, conda) just move, if anything little gets pummelled then so be it (as long as you don't exceed 100M/s you won't get a fine) :D

I can't say I really have this happen though, my Cutter, Covette or any other, I usually keep a speed of 80-90m/s and slowly cruise out the airlock. the only time I do have an incident is when NPC's try to cut in next to you at the airlock in either direction, or Players not giving a damn and smash you full speed exiting the airlock....)
