Ships that got into the game?

It has been a long time sixcuse me for being uninformed :)

I would like to know if it is known which original Frontier ships will got into the game? Ofcourse, I would like to see them all plus the new ones.

I'm especially interested if the following will be in:

Lion transport
Puma clipper
Panther clipper
Krait
Viper defense craft
Moray starboat
Imperial courier
Imperial trader
Kestrel airfighter

Although Kestrel was useless in Frontier (due to it's capacity and game mechanics) it coul'd be a really potent figher in ED due to it's high speed and maneuverability. And it is great looking also :D

And it woul'd be really sad if both imperial courier and trader are not in the ED :(

Kerrash was asked this very question on his stream last night. He said that he did know what the ships to be included in the release of the game will be. Unfortunately he wouldn't say. You should tune in tonight and ask him again he might be more forthcoming with the answer but he's probably bound by an NDA or something. Anyway tune into his stream tonight at 8pm (uk time) he will have a very special guest (or possibly 2 ;) ) on so it should be worth watching. www.twitch.tv\kerrashlanding

List of the ships that are already included or confirmed:

1. Sidewinder
2. Eagle (according to one of early newsletters there will be two different types of Eagle)
3. Cobra
4. Anaconda
5. Hauler
6. Adder
7. Viper
8. Asp
9. Panther Clipper
10. Fer de Lance
11. Lakon Type 6
12. Lakon Type 7
13. Lakon Type 9
14. Python
15. Imperial Courier
16. Dolphin
17. Orca
18. Krait (according to wiki, personally i don't remember any confirmation of this ship)

If you look into list of ships hidden amongst alpha files (http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=9884 ) you can find few interesting names:

19. Imperial Liner
20. Beluga Liner
21. Cutter (confirmed by Braben in some interview as ship avaiable only for players with high reputation amongst Federation)
22. DiamondBack (no idea)
23. Vulture (no idea)
x. Hauler (already confirmed)

Which gives us 23 names of 25 total. If my suspicions are true there's only 2 ships left for speculation.

The Imperial Courier isn't missing

You are right, Imperial trader is missing :( Looks like devs do not like The Empire :D

And I completely forgott about Boa. Seems I spend too much time flying Lion transport arround.

Funny thing, people considered Lion transport to be a crappy ship, but it was one of my favourites. I will surely miss him in ED...

So sad that many of original Frontier ships are missing.
especially sad for the Lion, Imperial courier, Kestrel and Moray starboat :(

Some of the ships that you mention like the Lion, Kestrel and Moray may already be planned for inclusion on release or perhaps as part of an expansion so you shouldn't assume that they have gone and will not be included. Some of them may even be included but we might not initially be able to pilot them ourselves on initial release.

I can't find the quote, but wasn't it meant to be 25 flyable ships at launch? There will be at least the Federation cap ships, and the attendant fighters as non-flyables. Hopefully things like the Lynx bulk carrier will be in too. (Along with generation ships and asteroid hermits. :D )

I would absolutely loive for generation ships to be in!

I wouldn't be surprised if there is generation ships or something similar in the final game. I doubt though that they will be flyable though.

And it most probably would be pretty boring to fly one :D

Frontier are obviously aware of the risks associated with adding more and more stuff into a project.

When it comes to scope, there has to be a pretty high degree of ruthlessness employed. I reckon that's what you're seeing here.

I'm a big fan of this style of project planning and execution! How much more fun would 75 flyable ships be for players of the initial release, compared to 25? close to zero, in my opinion. But how much more time, manpower and risk would be added trying to deliver 75 instead of 25?

Also consider the decisions FD make in terms of level of detail of their ship models. Their models are more than adequate for general flying around, shooting stuff, docking, scooping, exploring, etc. They aren't crazy, over-the-top detailed, probably because that would become a time sink for their designers, need additional optimisation, push the "Recommended Hardware" a notch or two higher, etc.

But... here's the thing... If they put a sensible cap on the number of models they have cut, it makes their life easier later on, when they decide to rework their models with higher definition. Less ground to revisit, and all that.

So I'm happy to see a reasonably tight list of initial ships in the initial release. FD are more likely to get the game released when they actually want to. They can switch focus to "additional content" stuff after that.

Moray Starboat and the Kestrel would make more sense to be included as part of an expansion, lets say planetary landings as I would love to visit an underwater city....

When Elite releases, hopefully by the end of the year this is just the start of the journey, one which could last for quite a number of years, just look how Eve online is still going.

Well said. I'd hate for it all to come out in one go and leave nothing else to look forwards to. As it stands at the moment we're going to get something playable and fun with lots more to come.
