Ships to keep and ships to beach

I've been plodding my way slowly into EliteD (and I bluddy lurve it).

Along the way I've tended to park, rather than trade-in, my ships - on the basis that if I nerfed up badly, I'd like to have something decent to go back to.

So my stable currently consists:

Sidey - worth 7K credits, 7.45ly range (carrying 4 tons cargo)
Eagle - 600K, 14.46ly (4tn)
Type 6 - 1.9M, 15.87ly (100tn)
Viper - 2M, 12.48ly (12tn)
Cobra III - 2.7M, 20.47ly (40tn)

My current thinking is to sell the Sidey and Eagle (despite its very cool green paint-job), and trade the T6 in for an Asp. That said, the T6 is very nicely upgraded and handles itself really well.

After which, I plan to get myself into a Python and upgrade it until my nose bleeds.

So, what's your 'stable', what are your plans?

I have a Viper for bounty hunting and an Adder for just kicking back and cruising around.

I'll probably buy an Asp eventually. Can't see myself getting anything much bigger unless FD seriously buff the returns on bounties.

Asp and Clipper. Eventually getting one (at least) of each and every ship. A slow procress (but that's because I get very easily side-tracked to do exploration for days in a row instead of making credits en masse), but I'm in no hurry.

i have a T9 for station trading and have just bought a python that i'm outfitting as an explorer, i did have a Cobra a T6 and an Asp but sold them to be able to buy the Type 9.

I have a Viper for Bounty Hunting, a Cobra for smuggling, rare trading, and the very rare times I attempt to pirate (I always feels so bad...), a fully upgraded Sidewinder for funsies, and my new baby Imperial Clipper, which I use for trading til I can afford to trick it out and also buy a Python for trading, and then trick that out. Gotta catch em all.

Python as explorer? The jump range on a python is hoooorrrrrrible!

I'm kept a fully kitted Cobra and a Python in a cargo config. The Python is what I'm usually in, even for pirate hunting, but if I'm going to try something dangerous or hit up a conflict zone I get in the "expendable" Cobra. I tried the small combat ships and felt like I just wasn't doing enough damage. I'll probably pick up a Clipper again when I have enough spare change, but not before they fix the hull mass bug. Maybe an Asp if the explorer bug ever bites. But I hate sitting around in supercruise for 0.16LY, yes, years, not seconds.... ugh... never again.

Currently in a T-7, working to a Clipper. Despite playing from Alpha I deliberately never flew anything larger than a T-6, so the Asp and T-7 have been a pleasant surprise.

Ultimately I'd like to have a stable of: Python, Clipper, T-7, Asp and Viper. The Python as a long term "do-upper" project - gives me a target for amassing credits, the Clipper just because it's beautiful, the T-7 for haulage, Asp for exploration and Viper for combat.

This is subject to change as new toys become available. ;)

if you are scanning every system why do you need a massive jump range?

I've got an Asp which is my baby, I use it for trading rares, exploring and getting about. I keep an A-spec viper for when I want a change of pace, mainly.

Eventually, I want one of everything in my garage but that's a loooong way off.

A ship for every occasion :)

- Cobra worth about 7 million. Used for taking bounty-hunting missions, as it is dirt-cheap to repair compared to...
- Asp worth about 20 million. Just recently gotten it somewhat combat worthy, trying to kit it out as a mean Pirate ship.
- Type 6 worth about 2 million. For when the bottom line is looking a bit thin...

The Cobra and Asp are keepers. The Type 6 will eventually be traded in for a Type 7. Still need to sink several million credits on gear for the Asp to get it to be the beast it wants to be, so any new ships is not on the immediate horizon.

Agreed, I have 8M in cash as I type.... I could trade my T6 for an Asp, but I'm hanging on to see what the next ships will be.

imho FDev need to fill the (huge) price gaps that currently exist with desirable and useful ships.

Viper, T6 and Asp here.
A Viper for bounty hunting in my system. Only an Eagle flies better, but sadly the hull on those is made of wet toilet paper.
A T6 or trading because money (Strangely, I also enjoy trading. Weird, I know)
And an Asp to do missions a bit farther out and/or help mates that're some way off. Not yet fully geared ffor combat because expensive.
That said, I also didn't think the Asp was an upgrade for a trader. A Type-6 really does it both better and cheaper. (Not just in buy/upgrade price, but also ggeneral running costs)

Clipper, Asp, Cobra and Sidey. Clipper about to be traded in sometime Wens for a Python (The clipper is pretty but I love the true versatility of the Python and want to see 5 beams converge properly and not as if manned by drunken dwarves) and then going to do lots of various things.

Asp is truly the explorers choice, the Cobra is so much fun and I just have to have a sidey at all times just because.

I actually had that opinion, but you can have an unladen jump range in the 22-25 LY range, which is plenty for sub-1000 LY exploration. Plus, you can shoot stuff.

If you are going to the core, you need a stripped down Asp with the biggest scoop you can fit/afford, no weapons and all D modules (or undersized) except the FSD, for 32+ LY range.
