Shipyard Duplicates...?

Do shipyards just never have as an option another of the ship you're currently in as an option to buy...or have I just had rotten luck at the last six stations I've been to?

I wanna trick out my current ship for a different kind of mission, but I don't want to have to re-config it every time, so I'm looking to store this one and buy another...but I can't find another. Not anywhere near the place I'm using as a home base (where I have another stored ship for a third kind of mission), anyway...

Rotten luck it seems, each station offers different ships. You can surf google to find a station that has the ship you want, often at a discount as well. You should head there. Also it would help if you let people know where you are and what ship you are looking for. That could help some one on these forums to point you to the right spot.

System won't allow you to buy the same ship you are in so, if you want two ships of a kind you have to buy a dfferent ship, let us say a Sidey, and look for the ship you wanted with it.

Sounds like rotten luck. It depends on what kind of ship in what sector of space (ie, no Imp Couriers in Fed space, why yes my nickname is Captain Obvious) and the tech level of the station. Find a high tech, high population station and they should have a wide range of ships, including whatever you're flying already.

Ed: ^ whoa, really? I could have sworn I'd seen the ship I'm flying up for grabs before.

That's not true I don't think as I am in a Vulture and had the option to buy another when looking through the shipyard at Anlave.

It'll show up in the shipyard but if you want to buy the same ship you're flying it'll say no. Just buy a sidewinder when you're there, then buy the ship you want.

Talking of which what actually happens if you do buy a 2nd ship of a type you already have stored at that stations shipyard. Is there any way of knowing which of the two you are retrieving?

You have to retrieve it, and remember the sort order.

Got rid of all duplicates last month, when I ran into this same issue after the 1.3 release. That took a lot of Sidewinders out of circulation to get done. Finished with a lot fewer, too.

If you have to have a bookmark ship, get a stripped Hauler. Makes for a nice storage locker...

You have the option but if you try to buy it, the system wont allow you and will say that you already have that ship. What you have to do is what another commander have just said: to buy another ship and store your current, and then buy the desired one.

Maybe something has changed because I thought the same but Chann3l said it wasn't true so I tried it. I was in my Vulture and bought a Sidey then from inside the Sidey a tried to buy onother one and I was allowed to so I ended aboard a Sidey with a Vulture and another Sidey stored.
