Shooting Cargo Hatch? Possible?

Can this be done?

I'm running in an eagle and trying out piracy (don't like viper because of the limited view, I'm in an OR and the windshield makes all the difference in the world being able to look straight up).

I obviously don't have the space for a cargo hatch disrupter AND interdictor... so I'm going with interdictor. so I at least can pull them over... but I can't get their cargo... I just end up blowing them up. And nobody ever wants to give up their cargo... they'd rather take their chances and try to escape.

So far, targeting the cargo hatch doesn't seem to be having an effect.... the ship winds up blowing up before I get to kill the cargo hatch and get them to dump their stuff. Blowing up the ship also doesn't drop any cargo... at least the 10 previous ships I've downed. (bad luck?)

So... is there a way to do this or do I have to just suck it up and wait for a cobra?

Thanks!

Yes it is possible to take somebody's cargo via blasting out their cargo hatch. I would rethink the Viper as the ship to use as it has 4 nice gun mountains at the front where the eagle only has 2, also its a better ship all round.

I have picked up spoils of war many times, but remember the stolen tag on them so go to a place where you can sell them.

It's easily done. Though the bigger the ship the easier it gets.

That's true, unless you die first lol as your ship just isn't up to the job. Think i have blasted about 100 Eagles already and their pilots were strawberry jam on my screen. No that was just me laughing so much with my mouth full

Yeah it can be done, but you'll want fixed lasers, and to be a good shot.

Target the cargo hatch subsystem as you've been doing, and if you're bang on target you do get a very small amount of auto-aim with fixed weapons. Also make sure you know whether the cargo hatch is on the top or bottom, it's difficult to tell from the targeting box alone.

Second this, mush easier with close converging fixed lasers.

Yes, it can be done. Target the subsystem and aim for the hatch. It won't just magically pop because you have the subsystem targeted. You will still need to actually hit the hatch.

The Eagle has 3 small mounts for weapons. The viper has 2 small 2 medium.
It is not a world breaking difference between the ships as the Eagle is more maneuverable, which is favorable to quickly and easily get onto a target's six.
The Viper has superior acceleration, and as such, better vector changing.

I love how people think because they shot down a few NPC eagles or a new Freeagle that the Eagle is a worthless ship.
Face a player Eagle that has some credits invested in to it. They can be fairly mean little s, and very difficult to shoot due to their insanely high maneuverability.

I take it you have to get up really close? Botched another hostage rescue mission tonight as I couldn't do any damage at all to their cargo hatch  Was my Viper against an Asp Explorer so should've been easy. Is there a secret to hostage rescue missions that I'm missing?
