Hello,
I've been out on a short run to chart the major stars of the Orion constellation and have hit a wall... Epsilon Orionis, aka Alniham, sits on the far side of a huge empty gulf on the very fringe of the Orion arm. I think I've done more light years looping back and around to try and find a route than on the rest of the trip combined, but am having no joy... but, I've had a crazy idea.
The closet point I can reach is about 40ly away. My jump range is just shy of 32ly. While I know that we cannot supercruise between systems is it possible to supercruise out far enough that the distance becomes jumpable? It would take about two days, I think, at maximum acceleration to bring the distance down to one I can hyperspace, but before trying it I thought I'd sound out the community and see if anyone has tried this before and if it worked? Or will the game engine still register the distance based on the star system I'm in?
Otherwise if anyone knows a good route to Alniham I'd be all ears....
Any advice much appreciated, commanders...
