Shotguns

Regular frag, Hudson frag, or Guardian frag. Which, and why. For general PvE purposes.

If you have a class 3 HP, fit a Pacifier, with either Double Shot with Screening Shell or Overcharged.

For Class 2 and 1 fit Regular Frags as above.

Point to Note have one of your frags as Corrosive special, if not already fitted to your ship in some other weapon.

Guardian Frags, no better on Human Targets than the other 2.

My Challenger Frag build. ( https://s.orbis.zone/yxb ) Not settled yet on the Optional Modules as missing a Module reinforcement and just testing if i need one or not!

It's not even a contest, hudson frags, overcharged, one incendiary, one corrosive, watch everything you point at melt.

Regular frags are EPIC, Hudson's are quite ridiculous.

These things need a nerf imo.

EDIT: You asked why...sorry. Because the thing about shotguns and frag cannons is spread. The spread on regular frags is 5* at the barrel. The hudson ones notably less, making them more effective at any range above point blank and MUCH more effective at greater distances.

I still use the normal 3Cs on my wing assassination Chieftain due to the higher DPS, but that's a fringe case where I practically hug enemy Corvettes till they're dead. But for the more general loadouts Pacifiers are the top choice with their tighter spread.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Purlease, enough of the nasty FD Nerf Hammer. Let us shotgun lovers have a bit more fun!

FD, do not take any notice of this Mad Ashman, he is either drunk or delirious (Or Both ;) )

Frags are nothing, Frags are the worst, Frags can't punch through a soggy paper bag, frags will melt your ship (Opps, sorry thats just the mamba), Frags....... Nah just ignore them!!

On the other hand, if you can easily get very close to the target, regular frags are preferable. Though, most ships with big enough hardpoints to carry pacifiers are not fast enough for that.

Agreed, though I would say it in terms of what ships you are facing rather than what you are flying. Regulars for any of the big 3, Pacifiers for everything else. :) I struggle to get close to vipers, even in the chieftain. Railing them to death is very annoying, lol.

Also true. It's just usually not on my mind. Generally my loadouts are not built that way. Most of the time I run a versatile setup, with some weapons, e.g. frags or PAs being included as additional punch against large/hard targets.

Me too, actually, but I find most ships don't have enough hardpoints or the right distribution of hardpoints, to be great at both. Have you played with teh Challenger much yet? I must say I'm VERY impressed. It's kind of a holy grail for me to find a set of hardpoints that allow me to outfit effectively for any kind of ship I take on. Even the corvette can't really do it without some horrible compromises. I think I found it in the Challenger. I was able to outfit for random pvp AND pve CZs without compromise, better than any ship before.

3x medium focused PA, one with TLB and two phasing. 2 small g4 long range feedback railguns, 1 large g5 efficient gimballed beam with thermal vent, and the same in small. 2 firing groups, one with the 3 PAs and the rails for Asps and larger, and the other with the two gimballed beams and the single middle PA for anything vulture and smaller. It works spectacularly well with the 45 second biweave and 4600(!) hull. I ran out of ammo three times last night before my hull had been touched. In PvP it's pretty much the same deal, with PAs and rails as main weapons and the beams for fighters. Man those fighters just MELT in seconds. :)

I'll add a bit to the original question - are Hudson and Alien* frags worth the additional effort to unlock them? I think I may have enough mats on hand to get one** type of Alien frag, but I've never been interested in PP at all.

*Why did the phrase "Game over man!" suddenly come to mind?
**You still need to unlock each size and mounting individually, right? Bloody stupid idea.

If it's meant to mow down human ships, Pacifiers all the way.
If you fly a Vulture, mount 2. One incendiary, one corrosive or drag.
For goids, dunno, I'm a griefer PvP player, so I never bothered shooting those :D
