Should characters be locked into Open vs Group/Solo ?

I think it's fascinating that the developers allow people to accumulate wealth in the safety of "offline" mode and then bring everything over to "live" mode with no penalties or restrictions.
I don't think it's right or wrong, I just haven't seen any other MMO do that.

On one hand it does cater to a huge selection of players that have the freedom to play how they want.
On the other, it creates some animosity towards players from "elite" commanders who have certain opinions about carebears and all that.
Above all, I think it definitely gives players a clear choice: if you want player interaction, it comes with a risk.
This refers to Open mostly. Group tends to be populated by like-minded players and that risk factor wouldn't be as evident.

I think the best solution would be to offer more then 1 character slot, and then that character is locked into the mode you choose.
Let's you explore the game as you want, but preserves the uniqueness of the choice.

Yes, they should be locked. I stopped playing because of the unfairness it brings.

On to other games. By far the most entertaining thing about ED, is this forum........lol.
 
I use open, solo and group depending what mood I'm in and I like being able to switch. All of them have their benefits/drawbacks, I like it how it is.

(This thread is going to be another psycho/carebear bun fight)
