Should completed missions fail if your ship gets destroyed?

Last night I did a large number of assassination missions, all completed successfully but not handed in. This morning I decided to check out some post-recovery systems to check out a bug related to another topic on the forum. Whilst landed outside of an abandoned base (and afk making a cup of tea) my ship was apparently attacked by a pirate, no big deal, but all my completed missions have failed. Has Odyssey always been like that?

The only mission that didn't fail was an uncompleted mission.

Actually, it has always been that way in Horizons. There are some things that don't fail... Not sure what, but space combat related missions always have. I have never liked the whole idea of having to return to the mission giver to get paid and complete the mission for such things.

imo it would be a really useful, as well as logical AND surely easy to implement QOL feature for such missions to auto complete and pay remotely without returning to the system you got the job from. I cant think of any downside TBH...... if it were due to multiple choice options on the mission, this could be negotiated at the point of taking the mission on.

I get it that delivery missions should fail - if you lose the goods before delivering them, but assassination missions that you have completed shouldn't - the person didn't suddenly get reincarnated because you ended up in an escape pod.

The argument against it is that you have proof of the "kill" in your ship which gets destroyed with the ship...... but to me that is pretty weak, esp when the Kill x number of targets missions dont reset when half completed, and when combat bonds are not lost.

This has not been my experience. Usually if I die during a ground mission, that is the only one that fails. Delivery missions, etc. don't because they use ground items that are picked up on foot and put in the super safe "personal storage" when I board an SRV or ship.

It's been awhile since I died during a ground mission, so maybe this is another "improvement" brought to us by FDEV. sigh

I think the discussion was about Ship assassination missions.

Ah, well I have died more recently doing those, and none of them failed... not even the one I was on.

In fact, the only way I've had ship assassination fail in the past few months are when I have a bunch stacked in one system, so that multiple targets jump in on me at once, and I fail to engage one of the mission targets before the system authorities kill them. That really irritated me... the System Authorities are not only kill stealers, but mission stealers!

Anyway, I hope this isn't something new with 14.02. We have enough oddities to deal with as it is...
