Should FD make a public announcement regarding hacks/cheats?

So it appears there are various hacks/cheats around.

While exploiting these in alpha/beta seemed logical, to do so in Live would surely seem less so? Especially with a Beta environment supposedly coming online again soon (today)?

So should FD make it clear use of any hacks/scripts/cheats in Live will result in some sort of action?

What are people's opinion on this?

You don't need an announcement, cheating is wrong and should be reported, like in any other game. They already have data collection running, just make the reports.
The only other thing they can do is add an anti-cheat engine, but they would have to pay whoever designed the engine, which they may not like to do.

Anyways after doing some research people who are exploiting Elite use emulated sockets and fake IP addresses, so who knows if they can do anything about it anyways.

I think it would be great if they would say something about them. But the reality is that a statement from them probably won't stop the incoming cheat-a-geddon. Because of the nature of the scripts in question and because of the p2p architecture, there most likely will be little they can do to detect the main cheats. I'm just glad I'm not in open and having to deal with having someone attack me with 10000x the normal hull strength.

I really don't care about hackers or cheaters, they cheat themselves - I will probably never even meet them.

I just want to play the game and have some fun playing. Maybe they should make a statement about how long that will be?

If FD post about hacks/cheats, then the number of people hacking and cheating will logarithmically increase. It should be done on a need to know basis.

They won't be basing their decision on what the forum thinks, so I reckon they should rent a blimp, write their opinion on hacks on the side and fly it over the Pentagon.

But they also said they are still working on a detection method. Even for combat logging, which is not even a hack/cheat.

Well I think I would consider combat logging a cheat or an exploit which amounts to the same thing

Personally I think FD are best to just keep quiet and work on the problem and possibly ban accounts in extreme cases.
Drawing attention to it will serve no purpose other than pointing out the possibilities to that those who want to cheat.

FDevs and statements don't really go too well. Given the current state of game, ton of work for devs to get done in order to provide more then just bare bones of a game, + bugs to be fixed. Cheaters on top of that leave me in a not very optimistic outlook for the game progress wise.

Here's the thing ... Frontier make a game ... someone hacks it and makes a program to allow you to cheat ... Frontier develop a way to detect who's cheating and ban those people ... the hackers develop new ways to not be detected ... and so on and so on ...

People will cheat ... if they caught they get banned ... or at least, I'd like Frontier to state in no uncertain terms, they will get banned.

Even if they have the best detection method on the market, cheaters will be around.

Look at CS:GO as an example, its the most hacked game ever, and they have a pretty decent anticheat and still have to keep updating it regularly because the cheaters just wont stop trying new stuff.

Their solution? Overwatch.. a system where you can download an analyze a demo of a player that was reported for cheating, and then cast your vote if he was cheating or not.

Of course this would never be possible in ED, but my point is... the best Anti-Cheat is the community, so just report these people if you ever encounter them.

The legit players are the majority, we can keep it clean, just do your part.

continual cheaters will be isolated away in a private group full of other continual cheaters...forever to enjoy the company of like minded people. :D

PS: I seemed to remember this as one outcome from the DDA on this topic

Hmmm...do you think maybe that's why they're having the Elite challenge? To accelerate this process?

Strange, I've never come across a hacker or cheater in the game.

I can understand due to networking issues, people will shout hackusations left, right and center, or maybe something that they don't understand happens... but this happens in every game.

I don't think there is enough hacking in the game to warrant any sort of announcement.

So if FD ban hacker accounts the hacker will keep coming back? Seems a real money spinner for FD at £40 a shot

Good points there, the whole recent CS:GO community uproar produced a load of .gifs of players who appeared as if they were using hacks during broadcast tournaments, but actually proving it is the hard part. At least nobody can complain that Frontier's to blame for once, seeing as most online games have this problem now.

Flappers also mentioned the tendency for players to report each other for hacking whenever they feel cheated etc, which I've seen a lot and must make the whole problem harder to solve. Genuine solutions are hard to come by.
