YES!

I would even go further and say put it on hold until all powerplay related things are fixed. It clearly needs some love and I don't mind FD to put it on ice for an overhaul completly. After all we have new content anyway to sink our time into.

Yes. Even more than one week. My proposal: freeze all expansion/preparation actions and void fortification and undermining server side such that people who want can still get merits and keep their ratings.

Id take it even one step more and revert back to the beginning of cycle 52 before the two hour longer than normal cycle tick. That cycle really botched alot of factions progress.

Indeed. I have three rating 5 Cmdrs to clothe and feed, they need their merits from somewhere.

Now, where's my nearest Control System...............?

I'd say yes. Not necessarily just for one cycle, but however long it's needed.

(Yes, I just had to comment on a thread by someone using the name "The Librarian".)

More or less what I was scrolling down to reply to this thread saying; furthermore AFIK nobody has reviewed powerplay in light of 2.1; and let us not forget that this last cycle was the first full year of powerplay, and unlike most other aspects of the game there were virtually no changes to its gameplay over that year, so it really ought to be due an annual inspection and a bit of modernisation...

I agree with AreZee that powerplay needs revisiting, I also think it needs more than one cycle to make it right, especially in light of all the changes in the game arising from the recent upgrade to 2.1. Ideally I want to see powerplay shelved for six or more weeks. or better yet, lets bring powerplay season 2 out with 2.2, but having made powerplay 2.2 universe compatible, more closely integrated into the fabric of the galaxy. How do I propose to do that, simples: with things like powerplay missions for merits coming from mission givers off the new 2.1 style mission boards, superpower factions should intertwine naval career progression with powerplay work, and the new bulletin boards should contain procedeurely generated naval missions so they should be more readily available ie not just BGS minor factions and Navay "Ascension Opportunities", and these more widely disseminated missions would shift powerplay and more dynamic, make borders move as a result of factions gaining or losing a system to an opposing super power. I mean do you really think hudson would take a system from the empire and leave all the imperial societies and citizens of tradition and other imperial minor factions in local positions of power? It would be different if one system was ceded from say Arissa to Aisling, both leaders of the empire, so the residents of that system would still be part of the empire.

These missions wouldn't be hard to generate, taking a simple massacre mission template and put in a few words from powerplay we get something like this:

Example powerplay mission: "Our beloved emperor needs a courageous pilots to defend her domain in Shatrites... Volunteers are sought for a patrol mission to intercept enemy agents operating in that system, bring back 10 confirmations of kills from Shatrites to be rewarded with 300 merits and two materials"

I imagine those 300 merits would then count towards the fortification of shatrites as well as the player making their merits to maintain rank.

Another example powerplay mission: "Our ever generous shadow president Felicia Winters is sending a consignment of aid to assist [Expansion_Attempt] through their current lean times and let them see the best way forward for their residents is to join the federation. Assist her generous undertaking by joining the wing and escorting them to their destination at [starport] for acknowledgement in the form of 150 merits and ABC Credits + XYZ [materials/commodities]"

If we freeze powerplay standings exactly as they were at the end of cycle 52, and a comprehensive review done on powerplay to redress the many long running issues and also in light of the changes to the galaxy that 2.1 has dropped upon us with a lot of new ways of integrating it into the galaxy I think the entire Elite game as a whole will be better off. One thing arising from 2.1 for example is the new omnipresent and overpowered police forces now make undermining an absolute nightmare. This isn't a bug report, there has been enough comments in the forums about what we the players feel is wrong with powerplay as it stood BEFORE 2.1 so I dont need to repeat them, we all know what is in need of revisiting.

if you still want to maintain any interest for PP revert to week 52 and freeze until you bring something new

I generally agree that more integration would be good, but they'd need to find someway for those missions to be directed. If they were just randomly assigned then powers may get incredibly bad expansions/prep etc. being run by people taking missions which are, in effect, working against the power.

What's surprising given the main premise of 2.1 is that we didn't get power-specific engineers. It would have been nice if, having maintained Rank 5 for a few weeks, you could go get a couple of decent hardware upgrades specific to your power.

This so much! I can understand, somewhat, changes in game play impacting basic operations such as undermining, i.e., more challenging A.I., etc. What completely escapes me is the absolute hammering of the cycle by delaying the tick, thus destroying those efforts completely. When I retired a few minutes after what should have been the tick, we were leading handily, with what should have been no time left to respond. Instead, all our efforts were completely negated. Yay!

It becomes less and less desirable to be pledged in the new 2.1 paradigm. I do not know if that was intended or not, but it is completely the case. The question, I suppose, is whether FDev cares about this or not. Based on the current evidence, I would say, not. As I have stated elsewhere, how 2.1 impacts PP saddens me, greatly. The team-based activities were, for me at least, part of the fun of the game.

Now, not so much.

I have now played powerplay for 1 year, and after this disaster, it is time we do not vote for postpone it for only one week.
But that frontier withdraw powerplay redesign it in the spirit of "rome total war" and in season 3, they show us the changes because they are eager enough to call the player factions GC "rise to power"

It's amazing that any of this is done manually. Absolutely nothing about any of it should need manual intervention. Complete fail.

And why they can't just go back to the state at 7:00gmt and ignore everything done after (refund anyone's credits etc) is a little strange. Aren't all transactions timestamped? They should have data on who turned what merit in at what time down to the second at the very least and should have been able to correct their error. Then again, none of this is surprising.
