THEY'LL NEVER CATCH ME ALIVE!!!
I like having to reconsider my route every 1,000 LY and scroll the 1,000 LY to see where I'm flying. Found me lots of planny nebs and goofy stars that way.

Another thought to include is that the plotter cannot take you on a wander, it can only take you to a designation.
Sure, you could plot to Perseus Deep now, but I got there by following a star chain and making decisions on whether I wanted to expend jumponium.
That kind of exploration is not impacted by the new software at all, but it requires you to know what you want to accomplish and to have an idea of how you want to go about it.
