Should I clear save?

Do not wipe your save. The re-grind is just not worth it. You can change direction easily enough just, sell your assets, equip a good explorer ship (whichever that is) and follow your nose.

"Walk the earth", sort of.

Thanks everyone, I think you've mostly convinced me to keep Jeff (when the new computer arrives). Mainly it's the rank grind I'd forgotten about, and the engineers unlocking. I think doing that again would break me :D

Thanks folks, some of this stuff in the year away I'd forgotten about.

This.

It might be tempting to clear one's save but then you think of all the discoveries that will no longer be "you" and there's the thought of doing the naval rank grind again too. [where is it]

There is a lot of fun to be had in the early game but there's also a lot of annoyance too.

If you're desperate for that "early game" experience again, why not go out to Colonia, blow your entire bank balance on ships, leave 'em in Colonia and then head back to the bubble with just the ship you're sat in?

Or instead of flying back, you could leave yourself with a couple of thousand, and self destruct in a sidewinder, and take the free respawn at Trevithick/Asselius.

As mentioned you could just get a new account to experience the game new again while keeping your veteran cmdr. With squadrons coming with Beyond, there could be cmdrs interested in joining up with the Prismatic Imperium-squadron probably, so that could be a new development for the PI.

I can’t trick myself into believing I’m starting over by hiding assets, nor does a second commander come with any pressure when you know you can switch back.

As for the “grind” - it’s been spoken about to death, but you are playing the game wrong!!!!

Indeed.

There's any number of variations.
Fundamentally, though, it's just about tying up your existing assets and then leaving yourself with whatever you want to "start again".

A while back I took my starter sidey back to it's "home port" to leave it there.
Conveniently, I had just over Cr3bn in the bank at the time so I decided to buy another sidey and see what I could do without allowing my bank balance to drop below Cr3bn again.
Was fun for a couple of weeks, running missions in the sidey, upgrading it to a Cobra and then an Asp etc.
Didn't take long before I'd earned a couple of hundred million credits again and that's when I just went back to playing normally.

Seems like the main "trick" to starting off at ED is understanding the benefits of becoming allied to factions and knowing what to do to maximise earnings and progress.
Alas, this is stuff that you can only learn once, which negates a lot of the obstacles to be overcome for a genuine newbie.

Properly resetting your save is a bit pointless IMO, and just becomes an exercise in "going through the motions" to get back to where you were.
For the purposes of a bit of fun with "early game" play, it's easier just to buy a sidey and not spend any of the credits you already have.

Yes, absolutely. Clear your save. Uninstall the game. The game is dead. Long live the game.

Or not. It's up to you.

Dont. You will most likely regret it. I progress so slow in this game that even after since launch I havent broke the 500 mil in assets border :}

If I'm at a loose end I'll go 'missioneering' - Take the highest paying mission you can, at the next station take the highest paying mission, and so on. It's a quite a fun, and you soon enough end up well outside your own bubble and seeing a few sights along the way.

Well not the grind grind, just a figure of speech. But I'm in the 'progress slow' group who's yet to break the first billion in assests after playing since Gamma. :) But yeah, I think on reflection I'll keep Jeff and just take him out exploring with the new systems, but like in the old days. The PI is in good hands without me anyway.

Well, my thoughts are before wiping your save

Wait to see what becomes of the Nova Imperial Story line, it might be something that would bring Cmdr Jeff Ryan back to guide the Prismatic Imperial during a period of turmoil in the Empire.

Or it might pass by and not be something that could draw Jeff back.
