Should I Come Back to Mining?

The last example you gave is essentially my setup in my Python before I left mining.

2 mining lasers, no shields, and optimum limpets, and limpet controllers. Worked great. I just watched a mining video on YT...now I may consider mining even more. :p

I like to have my ships built for one purpose, as I don't usually like multi-purpose ships. To each their own!

Do you mean you hunt down USSs? Why do you scan wakes in an orca?

I have also been wanting to outfit a cobra for uss hunting for loot and materials. Is there something to be found from wake scans?

This thread seems to have finished its course, but I'd like to nail down something you all have said.

You used to be able to drop down in a ring, away from a RES, and comfortably mine. is it true that pirates now always spawn?

If so....grrrr

A recent tip to avoid pirates was to boost away from your entry point for 20km before starting to mine.

Although my experience is relatively limited in the mining World since 2.1, I followed several pieces of advice.
1) Arrive in ring away from RES's
2) Pirates spawn, but you are carrying nothing except limpets. They give you the usual messages of disgust
3) Full throttle and boost away - enjoying the skill of throwing a big ship around 'roids and imagining you are in that scene in Star Wars 2 or Han Solo in The Empire Strikes Back
4) No idea whether or not it is 20Km, I didn't measure, however when nobody on scanner. Stop. Mine. Never disturbed.

If you are in a high security system sometimes you get system authority ships instead.

Just to echo what another cmdr said above, I like to mine every so often as a relaxing thing to do - sort of meditative. Some folk aren't into that, that's grand, but I think some of the ambient gaming elements in ED have their place, like exploration and mining.

Same here. For me, sometimes a pirate spawns, sometimes the police, sometimes another random miner, but I've never been attacked or destroyed.

I also enjoy mining because its relaxing, and it doesn't pay that bad either. Plus I like the feeling of being alone in a system in the edge of the bubble, away from all the crazy happenings, just mining my own business (see what i did there?:D)

I had a Conda just keep following me. I'd leave him behind easily and carry on for a couple of minutes at 480m/s, then stop and start prospecting but the Conda would turn up again. 20 minutes of that I went back to the station. After restocking, the conda was still fighting the cops, so I joined in with my mining lasers: Look what I mined

I think the mining mechanics with the limpets etc is pretty fun, at least compared to mining I've seen elsewhere! I'd like to see greater reward from mining in RES, from what I understand there isn't much if any of a yield improvement. Maybe with fighters that can change. But most importantly I'd like to see mining have importance in terms of the engineers gameplay, but that probably would require a complete revamp of crafting in general. At least in the way that I envision it!

I like mining as a way to change up the game a bit. If you add a few missions before you leave and pick up a few when you get back, you can make 5-6M per run in a clipper. I normally mine in an anarchy system with a pristine metallic, every time I instance in pirates do as well, so I traded my 'conda for a clipper. I drop in, stay above the ring and out of mass lock, and with 4 pips to engines just keep boosting so the pirates drop behind when they spawn. A few boosts longer and I drop into the ring and mine peacefully until I have to move because it gets dark or quit/restart later, then it's rinse and repeat. I like it, but having pirates spawn EVERY SINGLE TIME seems a bit excessive...
