Engineers Should I continue to modify an already engineered FSD or start with a new one?

Howdy folks.

So I have two L5 engineered FSD modules that I had on my FAS and Asp. I've now put them both in storage so I can rotate across my ships as necessary.

They are similar stats, though one is slightly better than the other:

  • On one, I have 48.7% optimised mass, 9S boot time, with about 21% negative hit on Power draw & Integrity, and +34% Mass.
  • On the other, 48.7% optimised mass, +3.9% max fuel per jump, with about 23% negative on Power Draw & Integrity, and +33% Mass.

I want to try and improve those stats, but I'm not sure if I should keep trying new rolls to make them better, or start afresh with a new FSD module.

What's the consensus? Is it possible to keep pushing up, or have I hit the curve on this one and should start over with a new module?

Thanks.

If you have the credits... modding a new FSD from scratch is the way to go. With module storage that means you can have the previously modded FSD ready for another ship once you get around to it.

But that's what I mean ... I already have two modded FSDs, so a third seems overkill ... but I'm not sure if my chances of getting better stats are more favourable on a fresh module or not.

It makes no difference if you start with a new module or continue modding the same one. Your chances of getting a better roll will be the same.

IMHO - doesn't matter. Do the old one. You will only use the best one you have, anyway, so why hoard them? :)

This is true. I just wasn't sure if there was a curve to the RNG, where at a certain point it wouldn't be possible to get any further improvements.

Of course, once I have an FSD I'm happy with, I'll just rotate them :D

lol, sure. :p

And no, every roll is completely independent from the previous one.

new or modify, it's based on RNG, so in any case you cannot know the result.

This, this & this

Those claiming that the stats are better for a fresh module don't seem to fully grasp the concept of relative differences!

Seems like you have pretty good stats which will be hard to beat. I hear the better on a new mod line of thought. Anyone with a basic grasp of mathematics would know that is complete bunk.

My fleet requires 5s and 6s so i am foccussing on one good one of each as i can only fly one ship at a time!
