Should I do online mode? I am a bit nervous to...

I mean the open play. I have been playing this game for a while, and really enjoy it. Have gotten myself a fully equipped Type 6 so far and working on my vulture. However, I feel I need to venture into online mode. Should I do it, or will I just be super-camped everywhere? I mostly play on my vulture also, and I am still not the best at aiming so I use gimbled weapons.... Should I learn to not use them if I go online? Thanks. I am pretty bad at real aiming :(

I love the idea of the online stuff and meeting people and grouping up, but I guess I am a bit nervous too lol. What do you think?

Go online. Wing up with a stranger. Enjoy the interaction. Enjoy the new friends and great role playing encounters and if bad comes to worse, suck up the few insurance claims. It's not a big deal. Especially not for a new player.

The only way to learn is to face challenges.

take a little sidney that you are not afraid to loose and just jump in and check it out.
won't be the end of the world then if something bad would happen (which i doubt it will)

(for reference i have about 200 in game hours and only got into 5 pvp fights so far)

When in open mode, you really have to look for the fight, or be in the systems with comunity goals on if you want to pvp.

If you switch to open and stay in not so famous systems, I'd say you have a 95% chance of never being interdicted. Only danger is people docking like madmen from time to time, just check the station for players before entering :)

I have played solo, group and open....I play solo if I'm trying to get something done lol.

Most annoying thing in solo...being interdicted by a vulture, pirate you say? Er no, I submitted and spun round to face him... "Yes?" I said, "hi I'm a bit bored" he said...should of shot him in the face really. I mean how rude :p

Just go for it. The expectation is far worse than the reality. Community goals and certain clusters are more populated, everywhere else is not a lot different to solo.

If you are a bit nervous I would join a private group first. Join Mobius so you can get familiar with player interaction without someone being a .... You can always pop into open afterwards. It's the perfect stepping stone from solo to open.

Thanks guys, what about the gimbaled weapons part of the question, should I really learn to not use them? I have preferred them on my vulture cause the shots are a bit wide otherwise, but not sure. Also I sometimes suck at aiming a lot.... haha. Thanks!

if you want to avoid pvp stay away of community goals and the rares circuit.
everything else is just a great expirience =)

getting in touch with others forming wings and changing the galaxy to our likings ^_^

Well your aim will never get any better if you carry on using gimbals :D Perhaps earn enough to kit out a second combat ship with fixed weapons so you can practise as and when you feel like it?

Use Ctrl+b to bring your bandwidth monitor up. It's handy when your in a crowded area. If it stays low then there are no players about, as soon as the readings start to spike you know someones about :)

Wouldn't it be easier to just view the ships Radar which indicates if players are near you and of course if they have their weapons ready?

nah its not so important, and the gimbals shines on the vulture. i think the majority of all vulture pilots does gimbals.
but its always nice to have goals in games is it not? :)
and perfecting your weapon skills is not a bad goal to have i think.

I haven't met a human player in weeks - and I am playing in inhabited space. So for me it's always great fun to see someone else, but usually they or I jump before comm is established.

As others have said stay away from cg or rare routes and you should be ok. I rarely meet other players even on pop trade route in my area but have had a couple of wings. Did res and another time did a trade wing. Nice to talk to someone whilst doin a bit of trading and if both in same system when sell you each get 5% of their profit so win win. Cmdr same as here. If you see me say hi always looking for interaction.

Open has a bad and also heavily undeserved reputation
.
I have never played anywhere but open and still the most dangerous commander is me - I have caused more deaths than any other player I have come up against
.

Why not join a PvE group (like Mobius that has over 8000k members) so you can experience playing with other people without the fear of PvP?

You can always go Open later if you choose (and then come back to the group if you don't like it).

I have played in Open since the start, but haven't spent much time in the heavily pirate/pvp player populated systems so not had many issues (I have lost cargo and ships) but not had issues with griefers or cheaters (about from a few combat loggers).

i think its best to try open first and maybe a pve group later if it does not work out.
i am a little skeptical about some of those groups recruitment methods and think maybe they have something to do whit the bad rep open play has got.
