Should I expect requirements for Odyssey to increase over time or stay the same?

Been playing Elite since it came out on xbox originally, switched to pc about a year ago. I kind of stopped playing video games with the exception of elite dangerous, so when i got a laptop I made sure to get one that could run Horizons. I just grabbed an HP gaming pavillion 15 as it seemed best bang for buck and could run horizons on Ultra settings without any issues.

Basically when Odyssey came out, I no longer met RAM minimum (had 8GB but only 6.5 usable) I upgraded RAM to 16GB, upgraded thermal paste and got Odyssey running alright on medium settings. I know a lot of performance issues will get better over time, as they did with horizons. All im wondering is if I should expect performace requirements to also increase as time goes on. Specifically, I dont really meet CPU requirement anymore according to https://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri BUT i only have about 90% CPU usage in High intensity planetside combat zones. I dont really plan on getting a new pc just for odyssey and dont really want to get invested in something if it has an unexpected expiration date.

tl;dr: Are system requirements for Odyssey going to become easier or more taxing as updates come out?

I'm banking on the theory that over the next six months, as they approach console release date, the performance will get better and better. Time will tell.

Odyssey performance should get better as they start fixing things

any future updates to Odyssey i would expect the current system requirements to remain the same though performance will hopefully improve

however what ever comes next after Odyssey you might expect system requirements to increase

edit: anybody who playa on console who is considering porting to PC dont.. PC players are being penalised as decent quality GPUs are currently harder to get than next gen consoles. the only way to obtain upgraded hardware for PC is to spend £2000+ for the best GPU. however iirc if your playing on console the game is only being developed for the last gen consoles so the system requirements cant change, unless they develop only for the 4k machines

Thanks for the replies. Also if anyone knows, is it bad for my PC to run a game it's short on CPU requirements for? Seems to run fine, doesn't crash, and task manager has CPU usage at no more than 90%? Heat is also good.

no so long as your temperatures remain within safe limits no harm will come to your machine

even if your CPU runs at 100%, the only thing you need to worry about will be the temperature, if your CPU gets too hot the machine should throttle (reduce power to lower performance) in worst case scenario the machine will shutdown until temperatures reduce

Awesome, thank you.

Yet more options:
2. delayed release for consoles
3. no Odyssey for consoles at all.

just bear in mind as were approaching summer temperatures in your home will likely also increase. as a general rule of thumb if you fell hot you pc will too, whats good now may not be later in the year. if you lower your graphic settings ie resolution the demands and temperatures should also be reduced

Good point. Ive made this mistake in the past with a work laptop... I now have a desk fan that directs the a/c vent air to the fan intake while gaming/working lol.

If you read DB's second letter to the community, it suggests that they thought releasing Oddy at a playable 30fps for low end systems was acceptable while they continued to optimise. They said they did the same with Horizons. They'll need to optimise to get it to work on old consoles.
