Hardware & Technical Should I get a throttle and which one?

So in January I bought myself one of the thrustmaster tc16000 joysticks. I bought it mainly for the srv cos I can't take my steering wheel set with me when I go interstate, plus I wanted to have control of the buggy "in flight".
I've a keyboard n mouse user forever so I took the tc because it's pretty cheap....if I didn't like it, no problem.

Well....
Whilst I have used it for the SRV, the "in flight" control has been....dubious and overall I found it tiring versus wheel with keyboard tweaks. But.....
It's brilliant for flying the ship! I can't believe the difference actually. I've been using the little throttle slider on the back for, well, throttle and have the main buttons mapped so I don't used thr keyboard much at all.....awesome.

There are some things where extra buttons etc would probably be handy, so I'm wondering first, are the throttle controls equally as 'omg why didn't I do this before' as the stick? And secondly....which throttle?

Is thr matching throttle pretty good or would the much more expensive warthog be the go? Would I look to upgrade the TC with thr warthog stick at some point, or is the view that the TC is a good enough stick (and just buy a spare)?

Just curious what people think. Pros, cons etc.

Keep in mind the warthog has no twist at all, so you cant do yaw/pitch/roll with just the stick. Total dealbreaker for me, not gonna use pedals for yaw. The 16000 is great, although a bit flimsy. If it aint broken I wouldnt see a reason to change it though. A throttle is crucial IMHO for proper combat flying. Simply cant perform the same without being able to INSTANTLY set to any throttle level.

understandable .. I used to think the same way, I went with crosswind pedals, and they are AMAZING.

I'm addicted to the X52 throttle, but I think that's just part of the bundle purchase. The detents everyone hates, I use them to put my speed in the blue all day every day.

The CH one is what I would have gotten if buying a standalone. They can apparently be horribly "loose", sometimes, and there's a DIY mod for sticking soft velcro inside to provide friction. (If I got one I would probably add detents of some sort too.)

Thanks for the feedback guys.
So a throttle sounds like it is definitely worthwhile.
Seems the CH is popular, avoid the warthog for ED, and the matching throttle to the 16000 is either unknown or not worth a mention.
That amazon link seems a similar price to what I can the TM throttle locally...and they do ship to AU.

After I put on several coats of silicone lubricant on the rails and the pivot point under the handle, the TWCS Throttle is a lovely and affordable option.
Just know that if you don't open it up and provide lots of lube it is going to be a sticky and unsatisfying experience.

avoid the warthog for ED, .

I don't think the conclusion for the warthog is "avoid"... it is a really beautiful piece of hardware and it works amazingly well in Ed. I use it prolifically, in both ED, SC, and in other games. Yes, it's expensive, and that alone may exclude it, but there are plenty of people in here that use both the warthog throttle and stick.

I agree that the stick must be used with pedals, but I didn't focus on that because you were specifically asking about the throttle.

Yes the Warthog Throttle is well-built (well except for the pinky-button) but really, it is HUGE, heavy, stiff, handle-buttons are awkward to reach at full-throttle (unless throttle is side-mounted) and the single-action of the toggles is a real pain in E D - but that is only my opinion, others may love it - I thought it was horrible for E D.

Soo, I'm playing with a CH pro t.16k combo. Some guys in CQC just recently went from the CH pro throttle to the Thrustmaster throttle and they are quite satisfied with it. I'd recommend both although some guys reported some connectivity issues with the CH pro (losing USB connection). But, I'm quite satisfied with it. The huuge advantage of these throttles is the analog stick which you can use for the lateral and vertical thrusters. The CH pro has it under your thumb, the TM under your index finger. Both are viable, based on the guy's feedback. Hope this helps to decide! (Personally now I'd go for the TM throttle, it is cheaper and firmer than the CH pro)

If you use Target software the switches can be set to just send a pulse like a momentary button . I love my WH :)
