General / Off-Topic Should I leave this forum for a week or two?

It's a slow news day... for one reason or another, but it did give me time to think and reflect on these forums, and has raised an interesting question...

Should I leave these forums for a week or two, and come back afterwards.

Every single time there's been an update to the game this place has erupted into aggression, insults, and huge amounts of venom, all directed at frontier Developments.

Why..? Because there will be bugs. There's always bugs, but there are always so many haters who don't understand that an 8GB game update is an enormous amount of code, that has to run on every possible hardware configuration imaginable, and on multiple different operating systems. In short it's an enormous undertaking, and I don't envy those who have to do it.

For my part, sure there are always some les (the network bug was a big le admittedly, but it got fixed eventually) but I'm very proud of the work Frontier do.

It annoys me thinking how these forums will almost inevitably erupt in the coming days, as there's a lot we still don't know about the contents of this update, and these forums will be an essential and invaluable resource to help us all find our way around it.

So what do you think? Useful resource or storm... and will you be sticking around for the shouting?

:/

P.S. I should finish by pointing out the irony that in this update, for the first time, there will be bugs that shoot back :)

Perhaps we will all get lucky and everyone that threatens to leave every time they're not happy with something (at least one every five minutes) will actually leave.

I would. In fact the last 7 days or so is my first time back (and still sparingly) in 4-6 weeks if memory serves.
This place is a dump and is bad for your "gaming attitude" and a patch is certainly a good time not to be around for several reasons. Rest of the forum is (generally) cool just this place.

And +1 for reminding to stop coming here for a while after tonight.
Believe me you will not miss it!

That's modern gaming and society for you, everyone is an expert and demands perfection and should always bow down to their needs and of course FDEV doesn't know anything, hell gamers today wouldn't know anything about coding or anything else and i'd be very surprised if they knew how to code "Hello World" in less than 3 lines. I'm with you OP and fully behind what FDEV do in regards to the game, people just have to roll with it and stop all the hating and shouting as it's just a game but hey you can't please everyone but i'm quite upbeat about 2.4 and all ready for it.

What you fail to understand that 8GB of update is 99.9% assets and 0.01% code (roughly - i just pull that numbers out of my hat but nevertheless code part is minuscule compared to content in any update).
Expecting bugs every update is really showing your low expectations (set by previous updates?).
There is
1) internal testing,
2) closed beta and
3) open beta
to iron out most problems which apparently is not the way FDev works.
Having any of the those bugs linger for MONTHS is not.

PS. Never seen anyone 'shouting' on internet forum.

I'll not be as active on the forums, in the coming days. Not so much due to the posts, but because I enjoy getting out and hunting around for any of the new stuff myself, instead of just reading about it or watching YouTube. Of course with as big as Elite is, I'll never find or even see everything, especially by myself. But it's great fun hunting around, all the same.

Another good point.
I get all the excitement and stuff but it kind of takes the surprise and mystery out of things when every new item is explained in detail complete with videos.

I suggest a week-long nap. But, I'm a dog. :)

Awruu? ;)

That depends, do you enjoy the forums or do they aggravate you?

If it is all the moaning and sniping that aggravates but you still want to chat Elite stick to the nicer areas. The ship threads or something, where there are fewer tantrums and less harping. Or go to the odd thread, that's a good antidote to any Frontier related forum malcontent.

I guess it's too be expected. Kind of farcical now with each update in the past, there are the expected moaning about how very little was implemented, ED "is dead" or "abandoned", again. And yet, players previously on hiatus come back again maybe for a while. So yes, another bout of armchair coders or game designers vs. white knights, which I admit is kind of entertaining to me.

Well; experience has taught you what to expect at such times; so as they say: If you can't stand the heat.....
