Should i play Solo mode in a Type 9?

I've been a trader and explorer since early gamma, I tempt to avoid most combat situations due to me having to rely on my laptop's trackpad which isn't very helpfull in combat most of the time.
I recently earned enough to buy a Lakon Type 9 (worst mistake i made to date in E:D cause i got greedy)

Now we all know the letterboxes are a tight fit especially when theres a T9 trying to go through it but i always keep as much to the green lights side as possible almost scraping my shields to the wall and i always wait for NPC's to pass or if i see a player heading towards the letterbox, i wait as to not surprise them.

However this time i was the one to be surprised, I made sure the letterbox was clear when i entered, mind you its a big and heavy ship so i can't make a lot of speed yet at this point when suddenly a guy in a Lakon T6 decided it was a good idea to swoop in from above the letter box and then imediatly hit the throttle whilst being in the wrong entry lane (red lights from his persective).

Obviously i was still there to greet him passing through the letterbox when we collided, my shields dropped to 1 very dim blue ring and he promptly exploded moments after..

So my question.. Should i just stick to solo mode as to avoid anymore casualties?

Pros: I won't bother any more space cowboys in the letterbox
Cons: I wont be available to be picked off by space pirates

T9 tonnage comes with priviledges. If anybodys fool enough to try and squeeze past, I say let them! :)

Stick with multiplayer if you feel like it. Not playing chicken against the heavier shielded and armored ship is something that all players have to learn eventually. Got a Type 7 yesterday and already wasted a Sidewinder, a Cobra, an Eagle and a Hauler.

IMHO you should remain in multiplayer. It's more challenging and you will find a lot of interesting situations which never occurs in single player.

If you prefer challenge and adventure, play multi. If you want safety and certainty, play solo. It's your choice ;-)

Would you not recommend getting a T-9? Is it because it's too unwieldy?

I just wasn't prepared for it at all, i sold an ASP and a Type 7 to fund it giving me 5 million of extra credits. It didn't help that the insurance alone was roundabout 3 million and is now up to 4 million. It came with a stock cargo space of around 250 i think and increasing it would destroy my jump range, and i couldn't afford it lol, the class 8 cargo pack is around 3.8million credits.

Now i feel like i should have stuck with the Type 7 for longer to be able to financially prepare myself for a ship like this, and even though its big and unwieldy you get used to it

Yeah in general you want to have at least 150% of the purchase price of a new ship before you even consider "upgrading" in my experience.

Having the option to play as you please is what ED is all about.

If you don't want to run into players, play Solo. But be aware that there are pirate NPC's that can also knock you down too, if you're not careful.

If you play open, then you will join the multiplayer with a ton of other traders too.

I would personally say play Open. As extra risk = extra fun. It's a game after all.

But you can do as you please :)

Ah, thanks for the info. I'm close to getting one myself so that helps a lot. How expensive is the Class-A C6 FSD?

16.1M Cr giving me a jump range of 17.46LY Unladen and a 12.84Ly Jump range with 452T of cargo (mind you other modules are D spec or even E spec so fully A spec will probably be less but not by much i'd think)

The B-rating one is "only" 5 million giving you 10.47Ly which is alright too
