Should I sell everything and get a Python or a Fer-De-Lance?

Hmm....

I have a fully kitted Cobra, a fully kitted Vulture and a fully kitted T-7 and some spare cash. I bring out the T-7 now and then just to grind out credits, but I hate grinding. Rather, I love plooking pirates in my Vulture. I keep the Cobra around just in case.

Ideally, I'd like a ship that would keep me happy in all areas without having to switch. Something that can let me bounty hunt, do some trading when I need the cash, and occasionally go and hunt down General YoullNeverFindMe in a mission once in a while.

Suggestions?

Since the FdL cannot carry any reasonable amount of cargo, has a crappy jump range and and even more crappy sized fuel tank, the Python is the ship you are looking for. Just make sure you have a total of around 100 millions of credits in the bank before buying one. Modules are expensive and you want some spare cash for insurance

do some trading when I need the cash = any ship basically other than the FDL ;) heck, the only thing it might be worse at than trading is exploring.

The Python is the better of the two ships in my opinion. But, I mean.. Honestly.. It's up to personal preference as to what will make/keep you happy. I have to admit, I'm disappointed by the fact that my Vulture's shields can tank more damage than my Python's. Size really does matter.. But in this case, the smaller the better. (The Python's shield gen can't run properly as the ship is basically past optimal mass by default)

I admit, i haven't tested a FULLY kitted FDL, but I wasn't impressed with it regardless. Also, keep in mind the FDL is a combat class ship and the Python is multirole. So really, by what you're saying the Python would be the best bet.

FDL is an up-armored Rolls Royce. =P It's pretty great if you like shooting stuff and being the kind of guy who has pet cheetahs, but not much else.

keep a cheaper ship so you don't paint yourself into a corner should you lose a few really expensive ships. after that, the python sounds like a better fit as what you want is a multi-roll ship

If it's gonna be your only ship, I'd go Python. Personally though, I kit an awesome Asp and use this ship for everything. The rest of my ships bar the Anaconda are garage queens.

I bough the FdL when they dropped the price .... i was really disappointed in it .... didn't have nearly as much fun in it as it looked like ..... i'd go Python

you should buy an FDL and bounty hunt with it for additional funds, as its half the price to combat fit compared to a python! Then buy a python, because it is the most noble of ships!

This! Python also is my fun ship.

Tried an A rated FdL but sold it again, didn't feel right, too many compromises, back to Anaconda+Python.

I tried out the FDL for 10 hours or so, and I can't really say I like it that much. My main gripe is the massive dashboard and horrible placement of the pilot's seat. The canopy and cockpit design makes no sense for a combat ship. I wouldn't mind the unnecessarily large dashboard if the pilot's seat was at least centered on the canopy. I don't think I'll pull it back out of storage for anything other than PvP if it remains in its current state. Ideally the ship needs a 16t fuel tank and at very least another 5LY range on its jumps... and a cockpit design that doesn't suck.

Get a Python? Of course. If there is one ship everyone should have, its a Python. Simply because it can do everything, and do everything rather good. Only ship you can go bounty hunting with 240 tons of gold in the back :D

Fdl? Meh...

FdL is suitable for low-level trading (i.e. small jumps between two systems when you're between jobs) because I've managed to get my FdL to 48t cargo capacity, but that means it still has 8t of fuel which isn't a problem for me as I usually buy fuel automatically when I jump. Other than that it's more maneuverable and handles better than the python IMO, but it does have a weird placement of the pilot's seat (about a good meter forwards from the co-pilot) although I'm not bothered too much by it. Another key thing to note is that it is (usually) cheaper to rebuy than the python.

On the flipside the python has somewhat more surviveability in a toe-to-toe fight and has a much larger fuel tank along with a larger cargo bay, and as a bonus perk, gets disrupted a LOT less by anacondas and T-9s.

Overall, I would say keep the type-7 if you can and buy a FdL to see what it's like, as it's mostly down to personal preference, and if you don't like it, sell both the FdL and the T-7 and buy a python. If you do like the FdL, then you still have the type-7 for trading.

The Python can be almost double what an A rated FDL is, but it is the more versatile ship. The Python doesn't have the over-heating issue the FDL has. The Python has 3 large and 2 medium hard points, which will always be better than the 4 medium and one huge the FDL has. The Python also has the better power distributor.

The Python does maneuver a bit sluggish, which can be overcome by practice. It isn't as fast as an FDL, but you won't really have much of a problem playing catch-up unless it's PVP. the FDL had much better visibility than the Python.

I could go on and on. My Python cost about 170 mil, that was full a-spec combat with several SCBs and such. FDL will be about 80-90 mil.

Get an entry level Python, for about 70 million it's plenty for trading and RES bounty hunting. Use your Python to make money to kit out your Python.

The Python. It does everything and does it well. I sold my entire fleet for one and have no regrets. It can kill anything I fight and still carries 240 tons of cargo. The fact it can land at outposts is a huge advantage over any other big ship and I have no intention to 'down-grade' to a slower, bulkier, more expensive Anaconda.

I've had a vulture for a long time. When I purchased my first Python I was actually very disappointed. Obviously it's a much large ship and because of this it's ability to turn compared to the Vulture is terrible ! I had to sell it and get back into my vulture. Glad I did !
