Should I sell everything and get a Python or a Fer-De-Lance?

How much cash do you have? Python really needs a good 100+ mill spending on it, i can't speak for the FdL, i know the running costs arent as high but presume you'd need a good 100m to buy and Kit it out.
Python is the best all rounder currently, you could pick one up for trading with a 20% discount for maybe 60-70m plus insurance and cargo.

Hmm....

I have a fully kitted Cobra, a fully kitted Vulture and a fully kitted T-7 and some spare cash. I bring out the T-7 now and then just to grind out credits, but I hate grinding. Rather, I love plooking pirates in my Vulture. I keep the Cobra around just in case.

Ideally, I'd like a ship that would keep me happy in all areas without having to switch. Something that can let me bounty hunt, do some trading when I need the cash, and occasionally go and hunt down General YoullNeverFindMe in a mission once in a while.

Suggestions?

Python, no contest if you want to do a bit of everything.

Just make sure you have enough cash for a decent build and of course insurance.

Love my python. 70to80 mill is enough for pve. At end of day have a couple of banks of scb and your shields should hold till you can bail. However be careful in res as you cannot through it around like a vulture. If you try to boost to get better turn you will end up in an asteroid.

So far playing with fdl and its just underwhelming. Really struggling with a good load out. Nice that you can you can easily bail due to speed.

Python wins hands down just feels right just make sure you have a couple of rebuys in ins.

. I have to admit, I'm disappointed by the fact that my Vulture's shields can tank more damage than my Python's. Size really does matter.. But in this case, the smaller the better. (The Python's shield gen can't run properly as the ship is basically past optimal mass by default)

No the ship is well within optimal mass. A Class 6 shields optimal mass is 540T and a Python hull mass is only 350T. The Vulture has better base shield stats so gets more out of a class 5 shield than the Python would.

But the Python can take class 6 shields and with best shield available and 4 shield boosters mounts the Vulture tops out at 705MJ's and the Pythons shields top out at 726MJs.
The difference is the Python (for a lot more credits) has the power to max shields and still load up on shield cell banks.

To OP, if you have the credits, get the Python.

The clipper is cool, but I sold mine quite quickly. Really poor shields, poor hard point placement and can't land on outpost.
Really cool though, terrible shields.

Python every time. Sold my Clipper for a Python, better hardpoint placement, and I cant go back now as I have bought the tactical paint jobs...

Since the FdL cannot carry any reasonable amount of cargo, has a crappy jump range and and even more crappy sized fuel tank, the Python is the ship you are looking for. Just make sure you have a total of around 100 millions of credits in the bank before buying one. Modules are expensive and you want some spare cash for insurance

You do not need that much, 70 to 80 mil is fine.

FDL is really fun to fly. And if you boost turn you'll black out it's so fast. I use it to farm merits in undermining.

But that huge hardpoint is useless for anything with travel time unless you are point blank and going straight (or matching speeds - you get better with practice).

Using any beams has the risk of frying your ship. Best loadout I found yet: 2 MC, rest pulse; use pulse on shields, use all on hull/PP. 4A shield, 5A SCB, boosters to taste. With A-rate where it counts it's 65-70 mil if you score some discounts.

FDL is like a race horse, but the Python is practical. 150-160 mil gives you a really good strong python.
