Should I sell my FdL to get a Krait?

I love my FdL but have hardly used it.

I mainly enjoy d1cking about in canyons in SLFs and enjoying the view in VR

The FdL reminds me of the Lancer Stratos in Dirt Rally; super hard to learn and twitchy AH, but once you have tamed it, wow! (I know, I know! You never truly tame the Stratos/FdL but ykwim.)

Basically I need someone to say, DO IT! Or STOP!

Thanks

Why do you need to get rid of the FDL?
I say keep it.
They are very different.

That said, I just bought a second Krait.
It's a great ship!

The FDL is a benchmark, an achievement; so don't go backwards by selling it.

With an FDL you can rank Krait size credits in hours.

I'd suggest plugging your FdL build into coriolis.io and then opening up another tab and doing the same for your proposed Krait build.

The Krait's armor isn't terrific and it's shields aren't anything special either.
If you've built your FdL for combat, it'll probably be a bit tougher than a Krait.

Personally, I think the Krait is much nicer to fly.
I've always found the FdL "drifts" like a mini-Cutter.
The Krait is (I think) slightly faster than a similarly configured FdL and it has more slots so it's more versatile.

I'd probably buy both, keep the FdL for combat and built the Krait as a multirole.

If you build an FdL for combat, it will be a lot tougher than a Krait - the base shield multiplier and number of utility slots see to that.

They're entirely different beasts. If you can't afford a Krait, work towards it. At some point you'll need a dedicated combat ship, and that's when you'll regret selling the FdL.

Maybe engineering does something to the numbers, but the FDL should be faster.

Well, my FdL is a combat ship so it's got heavy armor etc but it boosts to 529m/sec IIRC.
My multirole Krait is lighter and boosts to ~550m/sec

I do also have a combat Krait but I can't recall the spec's for that.
Just on my way back to my home-base, though, so I'll let you know in a few minutes.

They are completely different ships though.
The FdL is a top-end combat ship while the Krait is a top-end multirole.

I guess, if you have to pick one, you'd have to ask yourself what you spend most of your time doing.

*EDIT*

Just had a look...

Apparently my FdL does 404/544m/sec, my multirole Krait does 405/557m/sec and my combat Krait does 390/537m/sec

So, a Krait kitted out for combat is likely to be a bit slower than an FdL (although, in it's favour, it's still got a cargo rack and an SRV fitted) but a multirole Krait will be a bit faster than an FdL.

Krait is much nicer to fly (IMO) but I'd prefer to be in the FdL if I'm likely to get shot at.

Well, according to what you like to do, the Krait seems the ideal ship for you.

If you can anyway keep the FDL, do it.

Keep the FDL. I have an FDL I have not flown for weeks but I'm not selling it. Its the best non-SLF combat ship in the medium class imho. Get the Krait when you can afford it. Its a great ship but not worth selling another great ship to buy it.

The Krait is pretty mass tolerant.
My fully loaded reactive/hd/hrp/ combat version still boosts to 515.

Dooo IT! :) If you have VR, you need to try the Krait. I have a PvP build FDL but never use it anymore, wouldn't sell mine though.

Are you that low on credits?

I believe there are ships, once acquired, should never be sold, or you will regret it. The Python is the first that comes to mind, but the FdL certainly resides high on that list. And, I say this as a player that hates to fly the FdL.

Use what ships you currently fly, to earn up what you need to get a Krait. By the way, the Krait has now appeared on that list.

Threw away my FDL quite a while back. Just wasn't enamored with it. Then I built a Krait when it was released. Initial impression wasn't that great. But...since learning to fly it a bit better, and throwing a c6 SCB in her, I find that I enjoy it more in a haz res or CNB that I ever did the FDL.

Three large beams, all on the same side of the ship, and two double-shot frags slung underneath. Couple that with the speed and agility of the Krait and I find I don't need as much shields as I did in the FDL. I oftentimes kill pirates without them landing a single shot.

I'll never bother to own another FDL, but the Krait is a keeper for me. YMMV. :)
