Newcomer / Intro Should I start again

I think I've been away from ED for about 5 years. The last time I logged on was, early 2016. I've loaded it up again recently and after playing for a while just to get back into it I am wondering if I should reset my account and start again from scratch. Everything seems to have changed. Making money back in the day was a slog, everything seemed to take so long, and now it seems a lot easier to make money reasonably quickly. There's been a lot of "comfort" features added, for instance the assistance during supercruise.... But combat, especially against NPCs, seems a lot more challenging that I remember. Ive an Asp Explorer which - admittedly its not the ship for fighting - seems to last about half a second when I get jumped. I'm wondering if I should just start again from scratch and get myself back into it?

there's a new starter area and training program that really sets the tone for a new account, what you playing on?
if PC I'm sure you could probably pick up a second account for a few £/$/e

If you want to start again, then start again. I would advise against it, because you'd have to accumulate assets from scratch all over again, but it's really your choice.

You can practice combat in the training missions available from the main menu. The NPCs improved over time and scale with the recommnded rank of missions. Maybe you were doing missions for high combat ranks?

I got to expert rank ... but I feel completely outclassed. Perhaps I need a bit more practice....Will have a look at the training missions again - thanks

After a 5-year break?
Definitely restart!
The monetary assets are recouped in no time, there are no engineering unlocks to redo or mats to lose.
Nice & easy way to get one's bearings back again.

Yes, completely agree.

I don't know what you have, but it can't be much as the game was much more miserly back then. Whatever you have, you'll pass that in days if not hours, and by restarting you get to experience all the new starter system content. If I were in your shoes I'd go the restart route.
