ED is a 'classic' for me and likely for others, in that it's something we'll revisit on occasion and enjoying it as it invokes initial and subsequent memories and experiences.
I would think that D Braben feels similarly for, but not wholly beholden to, ED.
ED can be an escape, a visit to a different world, as you would going to an island to enjoy the sun and sand; as you would going to a theme park; as you would enter on your free time daily to catch up with friends. More me it's on our squadron discord channel, where I hardly post, but do try to keep up with the banter and discussions.
For us, that are still here play ED and chatting on the Forum, ED have parts that we still love (and hate). It's a place for us to blaze our own trails.
ED is still being baked, but even if it's ends up as "half-baked", ED will still be a game I'll boot up on occasion for a visit.
I'll go visits the parts I like and ignore the rest. I'm not missing anything.
Fly on!
