should i worry about the future of elite dangerous on xbox?

The reason why i post this here is to get info from pc users.

So heres the question:

Do you think future updates will increase the need for better hardware, and eventually be unplayable on the xbox one?

So i own the base game and im about to buy horizins and soon micro transactions. Before i do this im curious about this question. I dont wanna spend this money if it will be unplayable on the xbox one. I know its a port and a hefty game at that. Is this something i need to worry about.

Thanks in advance commanders.
May the stars be with you.

So far with Horizons, performance on XBox is still OK. There can definitely be some lag when loading NPC images but overall it's fine. I don't play on PC so can't compare -- and of course there are as many answers to performance on PC as there are individual PC's.

I think it's a safe bet that everything coming in Season 2 will be completely playable on XBox, and FDev will either make Season 3 available on XBox or not depending on whether it can run "acceptably".

PC users may get enhancements like higher res textures, faster or longer route plotting, more PvP instancing, etc. but fundamentally I'm not worried about being too limited on XBox at least for Season 2.

What happens with Season 3+, and when Scorpio comes out is anybody's guess! But there are more than enough hours of enjoyable gameplay between then and now to justify the price IMO.

Frontier dropped support for Mac and 32 bit windows PCs with Horizon (32 bit isn't that bad, as its quit old and really few still have 32 bit computer that could run horizon, but there were some). So they have showed that they will drop support if they can't make it happen easy enough for them.

Xbox is made by Microsoft and use/support directx API (same as many pc games) so most likely that won't be issue since xbox one isn't that much different than windows pc. Also xbox use AMD cpu and GPU that can be found on some low end PCs so the hardware is really similar to what AMD offer for pc. (You can buy same parts that are in xbox and build pc). Xbox is basically low end pc with little bit different OS. So on software stand point xbox one can be supported. The problem is if frontier bring/need technology that xbox doesn't support or xbox just run out of power. If that happens the pc minimum specs would need to rise a lot from what they are for horizon currently.

The scorpio/original xbox one is interesting if Microsoft don't allow only support scorpio but not original xbox one. This could push frontier to abandon xbox platform if they can't make game work on original xbox one anymore for reason or other.

The most likely thing that would make frontier to stop support xbox is if there isn't enough players or players buying expansions/seasons and they can't get enough profit from that. I can't say anything about player base on xbox as i don't play on xbox and there is no way to get any numbers for xbox one like we can get player numbers for pc from steam charts.

I play both. Started on Xbox, amassed 1.7 bil, mostly all through power play and CG's (a little Robigo mixed in). Recently got a GTX 1070 for my comp so booted up my PC commander and I have been playing him for a few weeks now.

Graphics wise:
In space and approaching stations it's about the same, the PC is marginally better, FD have done some good optimization there. With planets however there is more pop in. You know how when you approach a planet it looks a little fuzzy until you get pretty close to entering glide? Doesn't do that on the PC with the graphics cranked up.

User interface:
This is the big difference for me. The UI in stations on Xbox is so slow in comparison. Didn't really notice that much until I started playing the PC a bit.

Other then that I think for the rest of season 2 and season 3 they will continue to support the Xbox one. Season 4 I am going to guess will be just for Scorpio. But you are looking at probably 2 years at least before season 4.

You are not going to have any problems so stop worrying.

Difficult to predict the future. But Frontier always makes for the better for that the game is playable on all the types of equipment

Eventually yes, but you can always get the Xbox Scorpio or what ever it is called.

In fact I think PC gamers should worry because of countinuos nerfing so it can be playable in console. UI, gameplay, graphics.

Mac users are totally screwed in PvP since they cannot possibly compete with the enchanted weapons of engineers. I think a redo of the weapons to balance them so base game players can compete again. Why would a planetary expansion change the whole combat meta?

As someone else pointed out, both Windows and Xbox are made by Microsoft you're unlikely to run into issues. In fact, Microsoft have even made noises about converging the two platforms in the future so you have a consistent experience. I think you're going to be pretty safe.

As a current Xbox user.. the very thought of buying a pseudo modular PC with a silly name which you can guarantee will cost twice the price of an equivalent spec gaming rig... I'd rather shove live wasps up my bum.

Most of us will be going back to PC :)
