Should one stray shot be a death sentence?

The day the Developers and Micheal Brookes deals with this is the day i start playing elite : dangerous properly again. This has been an ongoing issue since Beta back when shooting a npc got you a warning, you can still get the warning if you use laser energy weapons, however a Target locked seeking missile which detonates on impact on an enemy npc which has splash damage combined into the enemy npc ship effect gives you a bounty, so does one stray shot from a multi cannon/frag cannon. To be honest i dont think a fix for this will ever happen. Its all hot air as far as the devs are concerned, i often see established well known twitch/youtube streamers saying " i thought by now frontier would of fixed this, GG guys " to which they start playing something else. You see i dont think frontier know how to solve this issue, just like the numerous other badly coded issues in game including the SRV which is now totally useless. you hit a pebble at low speed you get structural integrity warning as your hull drops to 99%.. who uses wheels in the 3300's to roam around moons? we have antigravity, alcubierre drives, drives which punch a hole in space and were pottering around on a atmosphere free rock after we have "glided" through no atmosphere to land. Sorry but this game has a lot of unfinished bugs/broken mechanics that wont be fixed they will do what a lot of other developers do and just shove more eye candy and specials in to make these bugs look like genuine game mechanics.

Yes, my point is that it isn't actually a blast. It's explosive acceleration. The blast abates rapidly without medium to transmit it but not before the explosive acceleration which still sends out pretty damaging projectile scatter, but there isn't going to be a blast/pressure wave beyond a fairly short distance. It's still arguably distinct from kinetic due to the nature of the spread of the damage and explosive is certainly still accurate.

I suppose you can make the argument of a general usage of the term "blast" as a synonym for explosion, but original statement could also be considered accurate in the scientific sense since a blast wave can't propagate in a vacuum if you want to be "scientific" rather than "colloquial".

Well there is really no good scientific definition of "blast" so you're going to be stuck with a non-scientific definition for that one. You can talk about "overpressure" or "shock wave" or "thermal effects" or "shrapnel" and so on. In general however if something explodes in space, and you are caught within its effects, you are going to call that a "blast" even if it lacks a pressure wave. At least that is how Elite handles it as a separate type of "explosive" damage which could have been assigned a combination of thermal/kinetic but instead has its own damage type. Same as how ramming isn't considered "kinetic" because the stress on your ship from collisions/rams is not simply a matter of "kinetic" damage as much as it's going to represent overstress/torque on the ship's frame as well as simply a kinetic "impact".

one stray shot is not a death sentence, you are just not good enough to know how to escape properly. sorry

Also, dont shoot the cops and you wont have that problem, i havent accidentally hit a cop in over a year.
