Should The Clipper and The Python be able to launch an SLF

I always thought the Clipper should be able to, and it would make it a much more viable combat ship making up for the terrible HP convergence. It would also put it a little more on par with the FGS.

The Python I could see being considered OP if it could fit a fighter bay, but as a combat ship against a wing it is pretty sluggish and vulnerable. Having so few utility slots and being much a sitting duck, without space for PD's or chaff on most builds (2 boosters, 2 heat sinks).

These are multi role ships, and it's through that modularity that their role is defined. To be able to fit a C6 SLF bay, giving up an SCB or the like would appear to make sense when utilising these as dedicated combat ships.

Thoughts?

the python: dear god no. the literal last thing the python needs is MORE functionality, its already basically proficient at combat, exploration, and is a better trader than its equivalent DEDICATED traders.
I'm honestly fine with FGS beingthe dedicated "medium combat+slf support vehicle"

this is even more so the case because the new krait (supposedly released Q1 2018) looks to be a medium sized "dogfighter" with SLF support, so that would fill the only remaining niche honestly.

clipper can see more so, but I think having the fed ships be kinda combat focused but otherwise rubbish whereas the imp ships, being style over substance, cant fight quite as well but trades/explores better

No the python is pretty much best ship around its cost and in ability of what it can do. Adding a SLF would give no reason to buy other ships around that range.

IMO,no. Neither of them are dedicated combat ships. Multi-purpose ships should be a jack of all trades and masters of nothing but unfortunately ED Dev's have made some of them unicorn-ships! I'm hoping all ships but especially the unicorn multi-purpose ships, get a re-work during the 'Beyond' phase. o7

I think that the Python is large enough. I'm not interested in fight but it would be nice to bring a small ship with you and fly around planets with speed.

just to quote myself from yesterday in another topic:
they would need to tuck a belly under the python to make place for a fighterbay, and then it would almost look like a conda, just with a different cockpit placement.

that variant would then be named "Stuffed Python"

sure, tuck a fighter bay under the python - that would make the ship high enough to not fit into the medium hangar anymore...
the hull as it is, has no place for a fighter hangar - its simply to flat and it already a miracle where it stuffs all the cargo you can put into it

the clipper is debatable, in the sense that currently the only reason to use it is because you like its looks, as its outperformed by most non rank locked ships in all aspects / roles

The Python though.... the python is literally a death machine without a SLF, and its supposed to be a multipurpose ship.....

Sure, we'll give the Python SLFs.

...once we downgrade its hideously overpowered C7 distributor and hardpoint selection that makes a Federal Gunship wince.

I think all large ships should have SLF capabilities, but only certain, specialised medium ships should. This would make the Type-7 a much more viable option (maybe they could call it a Type-8 :) )
