Should there be a Miner Rank?

Doesn't sound too glorious, but tbh neither does Trading.

What about Pirate rank? For all those who rob their way into Trade Elite selling stolen Void Opals? ;)

Mining takes more skill than trading. Pirating takes more skill than mining. And get rid of the CQC rank for all the good it does.

Does it seem right to have progress in mining lumped in with trade?

I always felt that mining should get its own ranking, especially now, with all the new tools and the new mechanics.
I have been advocating for this since the beta, or perhaps even earlier, but now... Mining has grown up and become far too awesome to be dumped in the same bag as trading.

Mining is a separate profession from trading. A miner is no trader. He doesn't just buy and sell commodities.
It's a whole other thing, a different mindset, a different mechanic.

FDEV please separate mining from trading asap.
It has to happen.

What's your opinion on the trigger for rank progression in mining?

My personal opinion: I don't think any of the 'trades' should have an Elite moniker. My preference is there are a multitude of career paths and the combination of all of them defines your status with the Pilot's Federation. Here is what I envisage:

Trader: Based on the volume of cargo trades and the profit you make.
Miner: Based on the volume of mined minerals and the profit you make.
Explorer: Based on the number of LY's travelled, the number of First Discoveries/Mapped and the profit you make.
Criminal (Covers pirates and smugglers): Based on the volume of goods 'recovered' and the profit you make.
Combat: Based on the number of ships destroyed with a sliding scale based on your ship and they ship and ranking of your target and the profit you make.
Courier (Covers Passenger and data runs): Based on the volume of passengers, the number of data packages and the LYs travelled and the profit you make.

The results of all of those goes towards your current status with the Pilot's Federation. The aim is that to be able to be recognised as Elite, you have to demonstrate that you are fully competent in all aspects of piloting.

Anyway, that is how I would prefer it, I know others will hate the idea lol

I would enjoy that profusely, assuming there's a progress meter associated with each career. That's the bottom line of the ranks to me, progression in the game along a specific skill set.

Mining yes but Elite would need to be quite a substantial amount to accomplish.

Pirating no, purely as it wouldn't fit in with the lore of the game. i.e. Pilot's Federation wouldn't endorse or reward such naughtiness...

I personally feel Mining is another OP game mechanic that needs to be tapered down.
Trade rank was always a pointless Elite Rank because of various fast cash exploits or META play over the years. Credits in ED are pointless now and stupid easy to make, given that trade and credit earning were always at the core of Elite as a 'game' i find it sad that ED has ultimately developed this way.

Mining is just the latest Conda in a day mechanic. Separating it from Trade just slows down a players ability to reach trade Elite rank but does not really address the main issue as far as im concerned which is that Mining is over powered.

A new mining rank adds no value to Elite, its just another grind (if ranked by tonnage and not credits as suggested above) towards a pointless thing.

What about getting a timer on the collector limpets? Something that shows up in the target information panel to let the commander know how much longer is left on each one instead of just relying on the audio queue or having to keep track of how long it's got left on a stop watch.
