Should we remove role switch panel?

It seems to me that the role switch panel (UI panel between your legs) is needlessly large, a bit obtrusive to VR usage, and sometimes requires us to remap our buttons. As there is very little in this panel, could we just remove it and put its functionality in the system panel (right panel)? Maybe in a new tab?

Or maybe we could just shrink it so it doesn't block lower windows? and only covers our legs?

I assume they have plans to extend the capability of this panel in the future (fun to imagine other role switches...), but for now, it is really big and does almost nothing.

What do you guys think?

It does seem to be unnecessarily large for what it's for right now. Maybe they got something else in the works to use the space and it's more of a placeholder now, kinda like the old crotch screen.

I hope it is just a placeholder. But until such a time that it does become a full-fledged panel, why not just put the functionality elsewhere?

Presumably that panel will also be used for launching fighters, which may require a bit more displayed information.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it will also be used for more vehicles, smaller ships and multi crew.
I could also see some advanced limpet controls being in there.

Left and right panels have just about the right amount of tabs to me.

And if it is getting in the way you can now disable the auto popup upon head look and only bring it up via a hot key.

I have changed the controls so that one input cycles through the panels, because looking in their direction does nothing. This means you can look all around the cockpit without the panels getting in the way. This works petty well

Isn't there still the hold + direction option? That always seemed better to me than a cycle. (I myself use an individual short cut for each though)

Doesn't really change the fact that the panel is far too big and in vr, sits on 'your beer belly' rather than your lap. It needs to shrink and move farther away.

I've been trying to make the manual panels work since getting into horizons but it just feels awkward. Rock, meet hard place...

Well besides the role-switching, we are supposed to be able to stream Netflix/Hulu onto that screen (you will need an account with the relevant service, of course).

It doesn't really bother me (trackir user) because I'm basically always looking up, never down.

I could see it being annoying on a ship like the ASP, where you can look out through the bottom of the cockpit.

Neither beta access nor VR equipment here u_u
But yes, it does seem to simply have the exact same size as the others, yet is obviously closer to you.

That's true for several ships (Vulture and all Lakon) as well as the SRV.

edit: when turning off the head look also having an option to disable the zoom on manual would help I guess (so all the button really does would be brining up the panel - no change for the camera)?

I'm worried about what could happen if we have to slam on the brakes, or land the ship too hard. I'm not sure that would be covered by our insurance.

Yeah, I suggested in the Horzions thread to greatly reduce the size of this panel, and to add a 'Hold to Hide' option for the GUI panels so you can stop them popping up if you are landing/docking or simply want to look at a cool POI out your cockpit.

Doesnt really need to have the ship information in there either. Its pretty redundant information for your cockpit.

Yes, you can do that too... I was trying out the other way. Either way, you can get rid of the panel if you want to
