Show Black Markets In System Map

If you're running an illegal operation would you want it listed in a public information service? I can see the benefit, just don't think it's plausible.

*Warning Customer alert* This market is not part of the official Zaonceian monetary service and may not offer the quality you require
Sure, listing black markets would be wrong, but surely not a bit of customer service?

I would be willing to make that immersion sacrifice for a (relatively) large gameplay quality of life thing. Because right now the immersion doesn't come from the human settlements, they're dead and artificial as hell anyway.

please do not do that.

premeditating the crime makes it more interesting (mapping local black markets and anarchy systems, checking local factions and so on)
when committing a crime without proper preparation then the fun comes from avoiding being interdicted by authority ships while searching for an outpost with black market or even smuggling the goods into a higher security station using boost, heat cells, silent running and skill.

in fact, it should be more difficult to find black markets or there should be markets with better prices that are more difficult to find (require trust from criminal minor faction, or a certain amount of smuggling history)

They want everything handed to them. If they have their way and the developers give in this game will be even more boring.

You're right.

Also: hell no @ OP. Find the BM your damn self.

Only show black markets if you're also going to show where buys your chosen commodity at the best price and where sells the best ship components.
As is, many stations have them and you just need to note a few down in your ship's log for future reference!

I think the responsibility is on the player to note where black markets are found, not the dev.
That's part of playing the game.
However, I do think a simple text entry journal for notes should be integrated into the game that can be looked at as a tab in the right side panel or tan in the map view. I used the user entry journal in Baulder's Gate all the time to capture things I came across.

Is this really necessary? I found dozens of black markets within the first few weeks of play. They are not that rare. Once you have found them, then they show up on your system map anyway... so not sure what problem this is trying solve... to save you from visiting a system before knowing whether there is a black market there? Its a tad lazy isn't it?

Personally i think black markets need to be more discreet, not less. For example, before you can see a black market on a station, you have to run a dodgy mission for the controlling faction. Once done, they let you in on their little secret.

I like that idea Loki. I agree, it does seem a little common place the way you just pull up and click "I want to sell illegal goods."

"Sure! Buddy! Cmon in and show us what ya gots..."

I was actually a little disappointed the first time I saw that.Black Markets need a bit more mystery and take a little more work to build faction trust in order to be invited to join.

Having list of black markets out of the box - quite a strange approach.

But why game couldn't remind me of stations that I already visited and discovered black market first hand?

Or having pan&paper is a requirement for playing Elite like it was 30 years ago?

Where?!

Actually I'd prefer it F:E2-way - finding a contact via bulletin board and occasionally getting disguised cops instead :)

Finding black markets should probably be more involved, but once you know they are there they should be marked on the map.

No way, do city maps list blackmarkets in RL?...I would think listing a BM on the Glxy/Syst map after it has been discovered would be ok.
