Powerplay is more like return of the jedi , overall amazing storie with one or two issues (burp jokes and ewoks)
the phantom menace is star citizen

My own drawing of similarities comes from Michael saying how powerplay was the thing he was most looking forward to / excited for / proud of (paraphrasing). To this day George Lucas still just doesnt get why episode one bombed so spectacularly with the hardcore fans.
I guess my point is that the visions of the producers of both Elite and Star wars differed so vastly from my own that i actually felt let down on both counts.

... Not that my opinion matters, but i know im not the only one. Only mention it because i bought the star wars box set and am struggling to get through episode one, much like i am struggling to get into powerplay.

I genuinely enjoy PP.

Good for you!

It's a moot point, of course, as it's not going anywhere.

Perhaps it's not going anywhere. But existing players like me are. We're going: we're drifting away completely from Elite. Shame really: many of us are really quite good at it and have a lot to give. I wonder if people will be playing PP at all in, say, three years time.

To anyone who doesn't like it: don't participate. Simple.

I wish it were that simple. But it's not. I don't/won't participate in PP, but how can I ignore it? It fills Galnet, and those shallow personality pictures of the so-called power "leaders" are everywhere (even at the top of this forum until very recently). No one can avoid them, so they taint the flavor of the game for all but the PP fans. Is that really going to go on, and on, and on? I didn't even have to endure that with Phantom Menace!

Powerplay is to Elite Dangerous, what the Phantom Menace is to Star Wars...

... or alternatively, with apologies to Irena Dunn, ...

But powerplay unlike epI is fully optional its an addon job to the game , just a new way to play the game for users like me who want to help there faction crush others or expand

Elite : Dangerous is the best space sim out there and is ahead of its time in so many ways

I agree with the first part for sure.
The second part - not so much in agreement.
It's a 1980's game dressed up in modern clothes.
Not saying that's a bad thing, because I loved the previous versions just as much and I don't think we need "CoD in Space" in the slightest!
But it's certainly not "ahead of it's time" in any sense - more that it's a classic for a new generation...
