Showing some love for the DBS

So I wanted to get into exploring, but didn't have the cash for something extravagant like an Asp. I'd already got a Hauler for trading so wanted something new.

Then I spotted the Diamondback Scout, it looked somehow... homely.

I realise the jump range is a little lacking, and there are exposed wires in the cockpit, but I wasn't off to the outer rim so jump range was not going to be an issue.

I haven't regretted it once. I love my little ship.

It runs very cold, jumping straight from fuel scooping isn't a problem, and there's so much window!

Anyone else like me, and loves exploring in a DBS?

Maybe it's a Diamondback thing then. I've had a couple of fuelling... er... mishaps, that probably would've fried me in anything else.

I am in a DBE, prefer it to the Asp, as it runs a lot cooler.

Not exactly true I flew DBE for a long time and with intelligent fuel scoop/power plant configuration Asp can run equally as cool as a DBE.
Scooped earlier at 64% heat and sat my Asp in the corona for several minutes testing heat rise.
She stayed at 64%...exactly like a DBE, only its an Asp, so it works better.

If you keep at a safe distance, then most ships can stay under 64% while refueling. The real questions pertaining to heat:

1) is how FAST can they scoop, eg how CLOSE can they get to refueling while charging FSD?

2) do you need Heatsinks to escape a Neutron Star / Contact Binary?

You can build the Asp or the DBE to either one to the best ability in the game. Of course you can also do these tricks with a DBS or a Cobra, so it's not an exclusive ability.

Agree but it's also about redundant systems and you reduce your heat by disabling redundant systems.
I keep on power plant/life support/fuel scoop/FSD/scanners.
So basically DBE is as cool a runner as any explorer vessel on the game, which includes the Asp.
Your analytical eye is rubbing off on me Ziljan :)

Yeah it's an interesting question though not quite as straight forward as switching off redundant systems. That is of course very important on any exploring vessel. However, even with the same power usage in terms of MW and %, the DBE runs a bit cooler than the Asp whenever you push it into extreme circumstances (eg jumping to SC or another star while trapped inside a Neuton Star's gravity well). I think this attribute is down to some hidden variable that FD uses for each ship's heat dissipation. But instead of being an advantage it is actually a bit of albatross since the DB Explorer REQUIRES this heat tolerance in order to scoop fuel without burning up, especially when speed scooping. However, if you zero throttle and only ever tentatively dip your toe into the Corona while scooping, then the there is no appreciable difference in terms of heat management.

That's the technique I use: mid speed upward scoop into the corona, throttle down to zero and get my scoop rate to max capacity and wait to fill her up.
No heat rise above 64%. All redundant systems off just like in a DBE. The only difference is I'm in a ship with the potential fuel scoop ability at 6A whereas DBE only ever gets to 4A. Leaving the 4A scooping longer but never cooking, because it's taking so long to refuel with a 4A fuel scoop, which totally justified your point on DBEs heat endurance.
It has good heat endurance because it's modules are limited and its limited modular design will always leave it struggling in the better designed, better equipped and admittedly more expensive (because it's an upgrade) Asp.
Back to DBS as an explorer. Any ship can explore Cdr. Even a sidewinder. Good look on your travels.
