Shyguy's World closing June 6th

Shyguy's World (SGW) has announced that they'll be closing on June 6th.

As one of the bigger forum-based sites it's sad news for many. SGW served as a refuge for many from the chaos of the old Atari site years ago. It supported players of most of the rollercoaster tycoon style games, from rct2, rct3, Planet Coaster, No Limits2 and Parkitect, along with Planet Zoo. For those who still play rct3 there is an extensive Custom Scenery List, along with the hundreds of items hosted in the CS Depot. Many players displayed their parks there, some in the archives date back to 2009 or earlier.

The time, effort and expense of keeping that site open all these years deserves to be recognized. For shyguy I think it truly was a labor of love. And it will be sorely missed by many of us. For some of us old-timers these games have been a part of our lives for 25 years or more, and SGW was there for a good part of that.

For those who like other than forum-based sites, the SGW Discord Channel will remain up and running.

But a fond 'farewell' and a sincere 'thank-you' is in order...

I don't think I would have ever started posting my work/play if it were not for SG. I remember years ago the competitions that were held. The CS Depot was awesome for a private site like that. The site will be missed.

While SGW will close on June 6th, the Custom Scenery List and the CS Depot will remain for a little while longer before they also will end. People are working on possible other hosting possibilities for those who still play and use RCT2. The reason for the closing is not just the dwindling community, but the fact that the websites are old, and very difficult to update. Very understandable reasons even if still sad.

Most of the downloads, tutorials and such have been saved and moved to a new site - parkcrafters.com, and I believe the SGW archives will hopefully be available there as well in the future.

I just visited the Depot for the first time in a while and had no idea the site was closing. I guess I should download the RCT3 flat rides I want in case I reinstall RCT3 or buy the Frontier published version Complete Edition just to have a newer version. But maybe the CFR's and CTR's will appear on that other site eventually. There's also Wayback archive for defunct sites so when the Depot goes offline maybe it can still be accessed through Wayback. The reason I would go back to RCT3 is because there are flat rides both built-in and CFR's that are not in Planet Coaster or are only available as static fake rides on the workshop. Parkitect has some of those rides, too as CFR's like the Chance Skydiver. I don't think RCT3 has one, but they have a Chance Astro Wheel and only a fake non moving one is available for Planet Coaster. But, I like the building freedom Planet Coaster has.

I might be playing more RCT3 Complete now because I can't log into Steam. I have no way of launching Planet Coaster now. And Steam has no way to directly contact them. Somehow my user ID got deleted from Steam but my profile still exists. RCT3 works without Steam by clicking on the RCT3 exe in the Steam folder but Planet Coaster gives an error, it says Unable to initialize SteamAPI. It probably won't run without Steam because of Denuvo. When I launch it by the Planet Coaster link on the desktop it asks me to log into Steam which I can't because it seems that my user ID no longer exists but my profile still exists. I went into the local files and got my Steam ID which is a string of numbers and it takes me to my profile on Steam but not signed in. And I can't create a new password or create a new account because the reCaptcha keeps failing after I do all the puzzles. I can go to Parkcrafters and get additional stuff for RCT3 without Steam. I have most of my old files from a past installation of the Atari version on an internal hard drive that is not in a computer, I have a part to hook it externally and gain access to the files. And I have Parkitect which launches without Steam but I can't download files for that like additional flat and tracked rides, scenery, and blueprints without logging into Steam. I like the waterparks in RCT3 anyway, and there are flat rides that aren't in Planet Coaster or Planet Coaster just has fake versions on the workshop. Planet Coaster feels incomplete and Frontier just abandoned it.
