Si I tried Submitting an Issue Tracker Report...

After many many months I tried the Issue Tacker again. I was super annoyed by a very clear game bug and thought... "okay, I got 10 minutes to waste".

So I looked up my issue to see if it already exists in the tracking system. Yep, most definitely. Well described and supported by several others. But it has expired.

So... I make a new one. I fill in all the fields as best I can. 10 minutes later I hit submit...

I check to see if its just a dumb message... did my issue report get saved? Nope.

Is there an Issue Tracker for the Issue Tracker?

C'mon Frontier... you really want people to waste their time with this?

Oh... I just noticed on the bottom right of my screen shot it says "The issue has been successfully submitted".

Was it created? I can't tell for sure. If I click on my "created" reports I see my old expired reports, but not this new one.

Having nothing much better to do tonight I submitted the issue a second time and it worked. It gave me a more positive reply when I hit the final "submit" button and I see it in my "created" list.

Edit: The first attempt had a slightly different title and content. It definitely did not get saved whereas the second one did.

Edit: I have been playing Elite Dangerous this whole time. No, internet connection was not lost.

This is an unknown known [1] issue with the Issue Tracker for the last 2.5 years or so. In certain circumstances [2], some of the compulsory fields at Step 3 don't show up. This doesn't stop you submitting the Step 3 form, and doesn't stop the Step 4 form apparently processing it, it just eats the issue report afterwards.

If, knowing this, you wish to continue to report bugs, checking for the presence of all fields at Step 3 before you start typing (the missing ones are in the hardware section) can save you a lot of time.

[1] Plenty of players know about it, but the Issue Tracker works as designed to stop Frontier finding out. There are numerous expired reports of it in there.
[2] It's unclear exactly what causes it: it doesn't work for me in Firefox, but does in Edge, whereas other players report that it doesn't work in Edge but does in Chrome. Disabling all privacy-protections on your browser might help, or it might not. Conversely, there's at least one report that it started working when a private browsing window was used, but not normally.
