Side-by-Side + Headlook [VR Legs Experiment]

So I had a go at this:

Interesting experiment here incidentally:

I can’t test it at the moment, but looks like it might be worth trying the old beta function in Virtual Desktop (£11).

Can’t say my own experiment with SBS was a roaring success, but having it with full headlook, rather than on a screen via BigScreen, would be an improvement :)

Not getting anywhere fast though. Thought I’d seek some help here :)

The actual pass through to the headset works fine. IE Elite is in SBS mode, and VD 1.7.2 is in SBS Direct mode, and it all comes through, filling my view. But the 2 images themselves seem misaligned in the headset. IE:

Looks like this:

It’s offset by almost exactly the width of the menu columns there. Which seems too much 😁

Playing with the in-game options (3D separation & 3D focal distance) doesn’t seem to alter it in the menu screen or in-game. And I can't see any VD options to tinker with the SBS overlap.

Anyone played with this legacy 'SBS direct' mode before? (And if so, which headset? I’m on a Rift CV1).

I could see this possibly being fun to mess around with if it worked, with the Opentrack headlook added. But not like this ;)

I played with this when E: D first came out and I was playing on a 3D projector. It did work ok then, but the effect wasn't very impressive so I went back to flat screen before changing to VR.

This feels like it should be a slight step up from TV / projector use, just because in theory it can be deployed with headlook within the game. (It sure ain’t proper VR, but could an interesting tide-over for a bit ;))
