Side Screen

Am working on an idea to have a separate computer (Raspberry Pi) on a small screen, say 10-11 inches, to run eddb, inara, forums, etc., while playing Elite. This would sit off to the side of my main monitor and allow me to access external info without ALT_Tabbing all the time. That way, I can keep my eyes on the ship.

Has anyone set something like this up? I thought of getting a second monitor for my PC, but given I only need it for Elite, a portable screen would work best for me. A Pi would be cheaper than a secondary monitor as well. :D

just connect a tv for second screen. disable mouse from in game controls. no need to alt/tab out. also have ED set to windowed or borderless

Yeah, usually I play on a couch since I have both Gaming PC and Xbox One connected to the TV.
I own Elite on both platforms, main is PC, but I've just started a new "career" on X1 where my goal is to own all the ships simultaneously.

Anyway, I have an ASUS Transfomer T101 and I use it to check eddb, inara, etc. whenever I need to find some commodity, ship, module or material for eng.
Since it's a tablet, I can use it without mouse and keyboard (however it's a 2 in 1 if needed, and it can be used on a desk too) on the couch, very handy.

I have an Amazon fire tablet. Cheap as chips (20 quid) and perfect for watching Netflix, Youtube or forum lurking. Also for those that like to hug trees and eat clean. The tablet uses very little electric since it's ran on battery power. Now go wash you hippies.

Great, i was thinking this week to put my raspberry in my computer (computerception), i have a 3.5inch touchscreen, it's kinda small.

yes there are a plethora of small screens on amazon and the rest, the only thing you have to watch is (as a friend found out) 7 inch screen running 1080p is a tad small, you might want to find one that runs 1024x or 1280 x or similar.

personally i use an old laptop!

You really need to worry about this? If you're running a Titan X vid card, just get a second monitor.:)

I've got a couple pi's, after you buy all the peripherals, it's less expensive to get a cheap tablet, or better, a cheap second monitor.

When it comes to having a side screen I have my old PC.
Can use that to look-up trades, post to forums or edit checklists.
Remembering which keyboard and mouse to use has caused a few 'durrr' moments 😏
